William “Bill” G. Russell, age 88, Carl Junction, Missouri, passed away Sunday, May 13, 2018 at home.
He was born on January 10, 1930 in Duenweg, Missouri. He graduated from Seneca High School in 1948. He began working at a young age as a route salesman, a position he held until his retirement from Borden Foods. Bill served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was assigned to the U.S.S. Henderson during the Korean Conflict and was part of the Sitting Duck Squadron. He was extremely proud of his military service. After returning from the war, Bill married Vera Gaskill on June 27, 1955 in Miami, Oklahoma.
Bill enjoyed driving his John Deere tractor, picking blackberries, catfishing and working on his farm. He loved gospel music and enjoyed singing in various area churches. He was of the Baptist faith. Bill’s great love was spending time with his family and taking part in family activities.
He is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Vera; two sons and their wives, Daniel (Nancy) Russell, Fulton, Missouri and David L. (Mitzi) Russell, Carl Junction; one daughter and her husband, Robin (Ron) Lundien, Carl Junction; five grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Graveside services with full military honors are planned for Thursday at 10:00 a.m. in Carl Junction Cemetery, with Rev. Bob Simon officiating.
Pallbearers will be Bill’s grandsons and great-grandsons.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Citizens for a Better Life in care of Parker Mortuary.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
