Elsie Couch

Elsie Claire Couch, age 92, of Garden City, MO formerly of Joplin, passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at her home. Mrs. Couch, daughter of the late Frank and Edna (Richards) Holden, was born on July 24, 1927 in Joplin. She graduated from Joplin High School in 1946.

On August 12, 1949 in Joplin, she was united in marriage to William Couch Sr. In 1954 she began employment with Safeway Bakery, retiring in 1990. She was a member of the Bakery and Confectionary Union. She was a lifelong member of The First Gospel Workers Church, having served as Sunday School teacher and Sunday School Superintendent.








Survivors include her daughter, Ramona Couch, of Garden City, MO; two grandsons, Matthew Couch, and his wife, Hailey, of Diamond, and Thomas Couch, and his wife, Connie, of Joplin; six great grandchildren; one nephew, Robert Arnold, and his wife, Judy, of Rogers, AR; three nieces, Carol Willis, and her husband, Thomas, of Oak Grove, MO, Nancy Erwin, and her husband, Phil, of Joplin, and Robin Ryan, and her husband, Eric, of Joplin. 

In addition to her parents, Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, William Couch Sr.; one son, William Couch Jr.; two brothers, Robert and Bill Holden; and one sister Dorothy Arnold.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at 1:00pm at The First Gospel Workers Church in Joplin with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery in Joplin with Rev. Phil Erwin and Rev. George Geesey officiating. The family will receive friends at the Church on Wednesday, November 6th starting at 12:00 pm until service time. Memorial contributions may be made to The First Gospel Workers Church and may be entrusted to the mortuary.
