Jack Kalert

John L “Jack” Kalert Jr, age 75, passed away at 7:18 am, Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at his home following an illness.

Mr Kalert was born March 7, 1944 in Granite City, Illinois. His parents were John L Kalert Sr and Nida (Biggs) Kalert. He had lived in Columbus since 1981.

Jack had previously lived in Illinois, California and Missouri. He graduated from Millikan High School, Long Beach, CA with the class of 1962. He earned a bachelors degree in vocational education from Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, KS. He was a printer by trade and had worked at Dixie Printing, Hunter Printing, and Joplin Printing companies. He worked as a Graphic Arts Instructor at Coffeyville Community College from 1978 until his retirement in 2005. He and his wife had hosted 13 foreign exchange students.

John was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Columbus, KS. He had also served on the Columbus Library Board and had formerly been a scout leader with the Long Beach Sea Scouts. He enjoyed photography, bowling, sheet shooting, traveling and hot rods, but his greatest joy was spending time with his kids and grandkids.

John was married to Ronnie Jo Heifner on July 10, 1970 in Webb City, MO. She survives.








Additional survivors include one son, Matthew Kalert, Joplin, MO; one daughter, Ranie Bryan (Tony), Joplin, MO; 6 grandchildren, Devin Kalert, Cameron Bryan, Ethan Bryan, Levi Kalert, Laik Kalert, and Lana Larkin; 3 great-grandchildren, Devin, Samantha, and Giovanni; his special sister-in-law, Rhonda Heifner, Carterville, MO; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Ronnie Kalert and one sister, Judie Kalert.

He was entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home, Columbus, KS for cremation. The family will hold a memorial service at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Columbus City Library.
