Teeky Burris

(From Parker Mortuary)

Teekeela Louise Burris, affectionately known as “Teeky”, 81, died peacefully yet unexpectedly at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri on March 4th, 2020 at 12:16 pm.

Teeky was born on November 25th, 1938 in Trenton, Missouri to parents Theda and Webster Scott. She had one sister, Linda, and a younger brother, Marty who she loved very much. She graduated from Joplin High School in 1956. She lived in California until her husband’s retirement from the USMC. She returned to Joplin where she was a proud, longtime resident.

Teeky married James "Jim" Burris on April 11th, 1957, and they were married until his death on January 25th, 1994. Together they had four daughters; Jamey, Linda, Mary “Lisa” and Virgina “Ginny”.

Her faith was everything to her. She was one of the first members of Christ's Community United Methodist Church, and lovingly practiced and grew in her faith there for 30 years. She loved her church family and they loved her. She was involved in as many activities as she could be and she always welcomed her church family with a warm hug and smile. She loved being part of the Jewels of d’nial a women’s group at the church.

She was an avid reader, nearly a book a day, and enjoyed participating in the activities at the local library. She worked for American Greeting Card Company, Tri-State Motor Transit, the United States Census, as well as several positions with her beloved church.

Teeky was a fun loving woman who enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved her daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She taught them resilience, love and faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Linda, husband Jim and daughter Lisa. She has 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren who loved her very much and will miss her dearly.

A celebration of her life will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Christ's Community United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends Monday from 10:30 a.m. until service time at the church.

In lieu of flowers she asked that donations be made in her name to the American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association.
