Mrs. Mildred L. Nelson, 86, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2020, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin.
Mildred was reborn again by the blood of JESUS CHRIST and transform by the power of the HOLY SPIRIT and her life was a great example to all. The most caring, loving, sweetest servant she was to all. What a blessing she was to us and now as our ministering angel that gained her wings. Now she has gained eternal life May 10, 2020 forever and now has met the ones that have gone before her, now has seen the promised ONE, JESUS.
Mildred entered this life on September 15, 1933, in Galena, Kansas, to the union of the late Orland and Marguerite (Artinger) Gust. She was a graduate of Carl Junction High School.
On April 17, 1953, she was united in marriage to Carl L. Nelson in Joplin. Together they shared sixty-seven years. She was a stay at home Mom and took great pride in caring for son and twin daughters. She enjoyed making her children's clothes, crocheting afghans and bed spreads for her grandchildren as well as making a lot of baby afghans. She was a member and the piano player at Racine Baptist Church. She will truly be missed by all those who knew and loved her. When her family was raised she entered the work force, working for Miller Manufacturing, Elder's Manufacturing and retired from Wal-Mart as a UPC clerk.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Carlene Dyer; grandchildren, Chasidi Dyer, Montana Dyer, Austin Phillips and Jennifer Leann Nelson; siblings, Shirley Gamble, Pauline Eggensperger, Wilma Cantrell and Judith Elliott.
Mildred is survived by her husband, Carl; children Vallen L. Nelson and wife, Katharine, of Joplin and Christina L. Beaver and husband, Alan, of Anderson; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; siblings, Orland Gust of Joplin, Marcia Foster of Joplin and Linda Williams, state of Kansas; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Nelson are 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2020, at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri with Pastor Melvin Stapp officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Webb City, Missouri. Those honoring her life by serving as pallbearers are Aaron Beaver, Vallen Christopher Nelson, James Boston, III, Nathan Judah, Matthew Judah, Alan Beaver, Keaghan Hancock and Nathan Balcom. Honorary pallbearers are Jaxon Nelson, Noah Cartwright, Barrett Cartwright, Kaylee Beaver, Adalyn Cartwright, Abigail Cartwright, Chasidi Cartwright and Samantha Shantel Nelson. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family has directed memorial contribution to the Ronald McDonald House, in care of the funeral home.
