Bob King

Robert “Bob” Earl King Jr. passed from this life on Saturday July 4, 2020 at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, he was 70.

Bob was born on May 2, 1950 in Columbus, Kansas to Robert Sr and Naydene (Mallett). He graduated from Columbus High School. He was a member of the United States Marine Corps for 10 years and after was a member of the Army National Guard 891st Engineer Battalion out of Pittsburg, Kansas for 12 years serving as the Company Commander holding the rank of major. 

Bob worked as a Warehouse Supervisor for Mid-American Pip in Scammon, Kansas. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and was once the Mayor of West Mineral. He was a member of the Wyandotte Nation and a member of the Church of God that was located in Stepville, Kansas. Bob was a major contributor to the restoration of Big Brutus through the National Guard. 








Bob enjoyed fishing, mowing taking his dog out and picking up pecans and going to his grandkids sporting events. 

He married Phyllis King (Oplotnik) on January 4, 1971 at Calvary Baptist Church in Columbus, Kansas. She survives of the home.

Also, surviving are two daughters Lisa Lawrence and husband Mike of Joplin, Missouri, Shelly Young and husband Wayman of Parsons, Kansas. One brother Kevin King and wife Jackie of Stepville, Kansas, and two sisters Diana Knight of Weir, Kansas and Fawn Zappa of Loma Linda, Missouri. He is also survived by four grandchildren Allie, Cole, Kaitlyn and Kendall.

Bob is preceded in death by a sister Jerri Allen.

Bob will lie in state for those who wish to pay their respect and to sign the book from 9:00am – 6:00pm Thursday July 9, 2020 at Derfelt Funeral Home in Columbus, Kansas. A Graveside Service will be announced at a later date. Bob has been entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home for cremation.
