Betty Hoover

Betty Brown Hoover, 93, Carthage, Missouri, passed away Tuesday afternoon, August 4, 2020 at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, Missouri. Betty was born September 5, 1926; the daughter of Franklin Brown and Hettie (Johnson) Brown. 

Betty received her education from the Philadelphia area for being a registered nurse. She was a veteran, serving her country as an RN in the U.S. Navy. 

While serving, she met her future husband L.J. “Gene” Hoover. They were married in January of 1952; he passed in 2006. She worked as an RN for McCune Brooks Hospital, and later as an occupational nurse for Juvenile Shoe Company, retiring when it closed. Betty enjoyed spending time with her family and loved her dog Charlie. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Carthage.








Survivors include a daughter, Jeanette Hoover, Mt. Rainier, Maryland; a son, David Hoover (Phyllis), Atlanta, Georgia; a brother, Ed Brown; grandchildren, Angela Quirk (Tyler), and Stacy Downey (Travis); great-grandchildren, Austin, Madeline, T.J., and Danielle.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gene; stepmother, Mabel Brown; children, Martha Hoover, and Stuart Hoover; and siblings, Leland Brown, Robert Brown, and Guelda Brown.

Funeral services will be held 1 pm, Friday, August 7, 2020 at Grace Episcopal Church, Carthage. Interment will follow the service at Park Cemetery, Carthage.
