Dennis Johnston

Dennis Raymond Johnston, passed away on Sunday August 2, 2020, at Freeman Hospital, following a brief illness.

Dennis was born on November 30, 1939 in Joplin, the son of the late James and Ethel (Hodge) Johnston. He has been a lifetime area resident. He served his country in the United States Air Force. 

He married Marcia Scroggins on March 9, 1968 in Joplin. Together they were blessed with three daughters. He worked as a mill rite lead for the Day & Zimmerman Ammunition Plant in Parsons, KS, retiring in 2004. He attended Forest Park Baptist Church. He loved antiques and enjoyed going to auctions and flea markets. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan. He enjoyed going to his grandchildren’s baseball games.








Dennis is survived by his wife Marcia Johnston, Joplin; three daughters, Amy Warehime and husband Michael, Bartlesville, OK, Marcy Hill and partner Mike Major, Milton, FL, and Kelly Sizemore and partner Brandon Webb, Joplin; one sister, Wanda Carroll, Webb City, MO; one brother, Ronald Johnston and wife Betty, Joplin; six grandchildren; Gary Montgomery and wife Nicole, Kyle Montgomery and partner Amanda Stussy, Nikki Chevere and husband J.C., Amber Sizemore, David Lowis, and Christian Carman and husband Chase; four great-grandchildren with one on the way; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by sister, Patricia Gilley; and brother, Jess Johnston.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Reverend John Swadley will officiate. The family would encourage those attending to wear their St. Louis Cardinal fan gear. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-7 p.m. Wednesday at Mason-Woodard Chapel.
