Don Hunter

Don C. Hunter, age 96, of Joplin, Missouri passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2020 at Mercy Joplin following an illness.

Don was born on July 29, 1924 in Duenweg, Missouri to the late Richard and Sarah (Mullins) Hunter. Don attended Duenweg schools and then he proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII from 1942-1945. 

Following his service, Don married the love of his life, Reba June Gibson on December 28, 1948 in Joplin, Missouri. Together they raised two children, Buddy and Donna.








Redings Mill Fire Protection District was established in 1978 with the help of Don and Reba. Don was Fire Chief from 1978 to 1996. Don and Reba owned the Redings Mill Feed Store and also owned and operated Don C. Hunter Sales, Trucking Company. Outside of the fire department, Don enjoyed hunting and fishing. Don was a member of Spring City Church of Christ.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; wife Reba; two brothers, Floyd Hunter and Claude Hunter; and one sister, Goldie King. He is survived by his son Buddy Hunter and wife Angela of Joplin, Mo, daughter Donna Elsten of Las Vegas, NV, three grandchildren, David Hunter and wife Stephanie of Bentonville, Ar., Justin Hunter and wife Jessica of Timanth, Co., Missy Imhof of Las Vegas, Nv, and five great-grandchildren Jason, Payton, Madelyn, Olivia, and Hazel June; and one great-great grandchild, Walker Jay Imhof.
