(From Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home)John Oliver Foster, affectionately known as J.O. by his friends and family, passed away peacefully of natural causes on April 14, 2025, in Sarcoxie, MO, at the age of 95. Born on July 5, 1929, in Wishart, MO, J.O. was a man whose kindness and gentle spirit touched the lives of all who knew him.
J.O. was a proud veteran, having served his country in the United States Navy shortly after his high school graduation. His love for his nation was only surpassed by the love he held for his beloved wife, Joann Elizabeth Sanders. The two were united in marriage on March 11, 1951, and enjoyed forty-nine years of devoted companionship, creating a lifetime of cherished memories until her passing on September 28, 2000.
A pillar of the community, J.O. worked diligently for many years as a director for the Farmers Home Administration. His dedication to his work was evident in the numerous capacities in which he served, always striving to make a difference in the lives of the farmers he worked with. J.O.'s commitment to his community extended beyond his professional life as he also took the role of mayor for the city of Sarcoxie, further demonstrating his unwavering dedication to public service.
Beyond his professional and civic duties, J.O. was a member of the Masonic Lodge, where he found fellowship and camaraderie. His interests were as varied as they were passionate. He had a green thumb and took great pleasure in gardening, generously sharing the bounty of his crops with family and friends. Moreover, J.O. found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as fishing, woodworking, playing dominoes, and playing bridge.
J.O. was a kind-hearted soul who will be lovingly remembered for his generosity, his integrity, and the warmth of his smile. He is survived by his children, Barbara Fagg and her husband, Dick, of Sarcoxie, Missouri, and Mark Foster and his wife, Connie, of LaRussell, Missouri. His legacy continues through his grandsons, Michael Fagg of Overland Park, Kansas, and Brad Foster and his wife, Lydia, of Carthage, Missouri, as well as his cherished great-granddaughter, Maisy Foster.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his treasured wife, Joann Elizabeth Foster, his three brothers, and four sisters.
J.O.'s life was a testament to the power of kindness and the impact one individual can have on their community. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him.
