(From Clark Funeral Home)Girtha May Matters, of Diamond, Missouri, passed away on October 27, 2025, at the age of 79 years. Girtha was born to Perry Lee and Ama (Stamps) Hawkins on July 18, 1946, in Stella, Missouri.
Girtha married Thomas Matters in Neosho, Missouri, in 1970. They shared 55 years of marriage, before her passing. Girtha was a very dedicated member of Park Plaza Christian Church in Joplin, Missouri.
She put her faith into action and volunteered at Crosslines of Joplin. She was an avid reader, preferring Westerns. She was outgoing and enjoyed camping at Campbell’s Point in Shell Knob and loved going for rides on motorcycles.
Girtha is survived by her husband, Thomas, her children: Jenny Parmley of Carthage, Missouri, Jim and LaDonna Parmley of Neosho, Missouri, Jackie Anderson of Diamond, and Julia and Brian Garrison of Joplin, Missouri, 10 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. Girtha was preceded in death by her parents, sisters: Brownie McNeely and Martha Anderson, and brothers: Ben Hawkins and Joe Hawkins.

A Visitation for Girtha will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2025, from 4:00-6:00 pm at Clark Funeral Home in Granby, Missouri. A
Graveside service will be held on Friday, October 31, 2025, at 1:00pm at the IOOF Cemetery in Newtonia, Missouri.
