(From Derfelt Funeral Home)Sue Nell Smith, age 84 of Riverton, passed away at 6:10 PM on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at Quaker Hill Skilled Nursing Facility in rural Baxter Springs.
Sue was born in Cardin, OK to Clinton and Chloe (Campbell) LaTurner on June 25, 1941. She spent the early years of her childhood in Cardin before moving to Riverton, KS where she graduated from Riverton High School with the Class of 1959.
She worked for many years at King Louie in Baxter Springs, and later at MidCon in Joplin as a production operator before retiring in 2000. She loved her animals, especially her dog Biscuit, as well as knitting and crocheting. In her son's youth, she enjoyed attending all of his sporting events and school activities. Her passion was the kitchen, where she brought the family together with her skills in cooking and baking. This allowed her to host several family functions which she thoroughly enjoyed. Her retirement years were spent in relaxation for the past 25 years, the perfect end to a hard-working life.
She was united in marriage with Robert "Leon" Smith in Riverton, KS at her father's home on March 24, 1959. He preceded her in death on April 26, 2018.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Clinton and Chloe; and two sisters, Oma Jean Elsten and Maxine Pennock.

Survivors include one son, Robby Smith (wife, Janie) of Miami, OK; three grandchildren, Tabitha Smith of Miami, OK, and twins Savanna Stone (husband, Jason ) of St. Louis, MO, and Kiefer Smith of Athens, IL; step-grandkids, Adam Weaver of Quapaw, OK, and Amy Weaver of Miami, OK; six great-grandchildren, Abigail Martin, Brayson Weaver, Sylei Click, Ethan Weaver, Landon Smith, and Lyncoln Stone; as well as many special nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Smith has been entrusted to Derfelts Baxter Chapel for cremation. The family will host a reception in her honor on from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at Exciting Baptist Church, 1010 B St, Commerce, OK 74339.
