Dave Ewers

(From Konantz Warden Funeral Home)

David Wayne “Dave” Ewers, 76, of Lamar, MO, passed away, surrounded by his family, on Monday, November 17, 2025.

Dave was born at the Lamar Clinic to T.J. and Beulah (Boehm) Ewers. A lifelong resident of Lamar, he built his life around hard work, family, and the simple joys that made him happiest. He attended Haines Grove School, a one-room schoolhouse, from first through eighth grade and graduated from Liberal High School with the Class of 1967. Following high school, Dave continued his education in his own way—self-taught, hands-on, and driven by curiosity. He loved building, modifying, improving, and creating. If something was broken, Dave could fix it, and more often than not, he made it better, faster, or more powerful.

He proudly served in the Missouri National Guard for seven years. He also served on the Lamar Lake board and was the chairman until the board was dissolved. Throughout his life he held several jobs that reflected his wide-ranging skills and interests, working at Thorco Industries and later in IT at Washburn Farm Supply. But his greatest passion was always motorcycles, mopeds, and ATVs. For most of his life, Dave owned and operated Dave’s Cycle, where he sold parts and accessories, repaired bikes and ATVs, and built a reputation for honest work, craftsmanship, and ingenuity. His shop was a gathering place where friends traded stories, sought his advice, and admired his expertise.

Dave was an outdoorsman through and through—whether the weather was warm or freezing. He loved camping and fishing, and he especially enjoyed attending and winning ATV pulls with his daughter, Amanda. He didn’t just like fixing four-wheelers; he loved riding them, especially climbing hills and taking on the chat piles. He built and drove remote control cars, including a Rock Buster and other RC creations, and even built a dune buggy powered by an Oldsmobile 455 engine.

On January 22, 1971, Dave married the love of his life, Linda (Thrasher) Ewers, at First Baptist Church of Lamar. Together they shared 54 years of marriage and built a loving family grounded in laughter, devotion, and hard work. Dave adored his granddaughters, Hailey and Desirae. Whatever they wanted, he made it happen—whether that meant giving them moped rides as little girls or building mopeds for them to ride on their own as they grew older.

In recent years, Dave found peace and enjoyment in shooting guns, a hobby that gave him quiet moments of focus and relaxation.

Dave is survived by his wife, Linda Ewers; his daughter, Amanda (Chris) Burr of Lamar, MO; grandchildren, Hailey (Joshua) Short of Lamar, MO, and Desirae (Justin) Payne of Lamar, MO; great-grandsons Bentley and a baby expected in April 2026; and his sister, Patricia (Bill) Nixon of Lamar, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Dave will be remembered for his boundless creativity, his willingness to help anyone who needed it, his devotion to his family, and his steady, dependable presence in the lives of all who knew him.
