William Robert 'Bob' Johnson III, age 65, Joplin, passed away at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, September 3, 2015 from injuries he sustained in an accident in Cherokee County, Kansas.
Bob was born June 24, 1950 in Joplin and was the son of Mary Helen Wright Johnson and the late William Robert Johnson II.
He worked for over 45 years as a meat cutter in and around Joplin. He learned and worked alongside his uncle, Cecil West before venturing off on his own. He had worked at several local establishments including Bud Smith's, Caldwell's, Smitty's, Albertson's and eventually Price Cutter.
Bob was a member of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union. He was an avid motorcycle rider and promoted safety whenever he could. Bob also participated in many rides to support local causes. He was a member of the Route 66 Corvette Cruiser Club; NASA Powerlifting Club, where he was a state record holder and was proud to be a personal fitness trainer at the Joplin YMCA and former Olympic Fitness Center.
Bob married Dora Gregory on June 24, 2014 in Miami, Oklahoma. She survives at the home.
Additional survivors include children, Stephanie Lant, Shannon Johnson and wife, Jayme, Wendy Vickers and husband, Bob, Lettisha Anderson, MaryAnn Johnson, Chrystal Downs and husband, Ernie; his mother, Mary Helen Johnson; one brother, Gregory Johnson; 17 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Memorial services are planned for Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary. Jeff Martin will officiate. The family will receive friends following the services in the chapel.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
