Mary Ruth Walters, age 96, Joplin, passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at her home.
Mary was born April 21, 1920 in Purcell, Oklahoma, daughter of the late John B Williams and Martha Ellen McCurry Williams. She graduated from Chickasha High School, Chickasha, Oklahoma before marrying Vernon Woodrow Walters on June 27, 1937. The couple owned and operated Walt’s Shoe Store in Joplin since the early 1950's. They enjoyed 73 years of marriage together before he preceded her in death on November 18, 2010.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death
by sisters, Beulah Spoonemore, Beatrice Tessman, Nancy Ellen Williams; brothers, Herbert Williams, Howard Williams, James Williams; and a granddaughter, Terri Reneau Pittman.
Survivors include her children, Caroljane Reneau and husband Dale, Larry Walters and wife Linda; brother, Charles Williams; sisters, Vivian Gregston, Kathryn Dayton, and Janice Love, six grandchildren, Lori Ann Reneau Todd, Joel Reneau, Robert Reneau, Mark Reneau, Mary Beth Walters Cope, and Lucy Ann Walters Bloom, twelve great-grandchildren and ten great-great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Thursday, October 20, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Mount Hope Cemetery with Pastor Cecil W. Todd officiating.
Family requests that memorial contributions be made to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
