David Ray Crunkleton, age 72 of Joplin, passed away at his home at 9:53 AM on Wednesday, May 31, 2017. He had lived in the four-state area for 24 years.
David was born in Van Buren, MO on June 5, 1944. He graduated from Van Buren High School before enlisting in the Military. He served his country from 1965-1967. He was a Vietnam War Veteran, a Hero, and a Proud American. During his time in the service, he earned the Combat Infantryman Badge, two medals for his skills as an expert rifleman, and a positive good conduct medal.
Upon returning to the states, he began working as a truck driver, driving for several freight companies including Big John’s Equipment of Joplin. He was a member of the Faith Holiness Church of Joplin. During his free time, he enjoyed music, especially playing piano and guitar and singing along.
David married Ada Ruth Crunkleton on October 17, 1993 in Greenwood, MO. She preceded him in death.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, Benny Crunkleton and Mary (Carter) Crunkleton; two step-sons, David Taylor and Cecil Taylor; one brother, Richard Crunkleton; and one sister, Ollie Mae Crunkleton.
Survivors include one daughter, Laura Friend (husband, Mike) of Seneca, MO; three step-children, Ed Taylor (wife, Paula) of Joplin, Marilyn Stewart (husband, Wayne) of Purcell, MO, and Glenda Crouch of Joplin; two brothers, Joy Crunkleton of Poplar Bluff, MO, and Jerry Crunkleton of St. Louis, MO; three sisters, Linda Critchfield and Allie Crunkleton, both of Van Buren, MO, and Alice Crunkleton of St. Louis, MO; as well as 17 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 2, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Oak Hill Cemetery, Galena. Arrangements are under the direction of Derfelt Funeral Home of Galena. Online condolences may be expressed at www.derfeltfuneralhomes.com.
