Mary Elizabeth Emmert, age 72, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away on Friday, August 4, 2017 at Freeman Hospital surrounded by her family, following an extended illness.
Mary was born September 23, 1944 in Joplin to the late Charles R. Emmert and Alma "Kathryn" Hailey Emmert. She worked for Eagle Picher, Fibers Division, Joplin, for many years in production and after retirement, she started working for Spring River Christian Village in Joplin. Mary was a beautiful person who cared for her family very much, her smile and laughter always brought warmth to those around her. She was gentle, loving, kind and generous to all who knew her. Mary was a wonderful gardener and enjoyed arts and crafts. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include a daughter, Elizabeth "Becky" Abela and husband, Craig of Auckland, New Zealand; a son, Donald Emmert of Joplin; grandchildren, Gabbrielle Emmert, Alexis and Avery Abela; sisters, Jeannette Emmert of Joplin, Kathy Smith and husband, David, of Joplin; brothers, Charles Emmert and wife, Linda and Byron "Mike" Emmert, both of Joplin; plus many nieces, nephews and extended family.
A memorial service is planned for Wednesday, August 9, at 7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary with visitation to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Ronald McDonald House, in care of the mortuary.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
