Everett Leroy Shallenburger, age 81 of Joplin, MO passed away at his home at 3:30 AM on Friday, November 17, 2017.
Everett was born on June 11,1936 to Earnest Shallenburger and Alberta (Sally) Mills and his beloved stepfather Robert Mills, Sr.
He had lived in the four-state area all of his life, and had been at his current residence for 51 years. He was skilled in all things mechanical. He used that knowledge through his employment with Green Yates Appliance Repair, Eagle Picher, Precision Products, and most recently with Vickers as a machinist and supervisor, retiring from there in the early 1990’s. Everett was formerly a member of the Eagle’s Club, and was also a member of Empire Mission Church. He loved fishing, tinkering with gadgets, and was certainly a jack of all trades.
Everett married Marlene Sliger on October 7, 1955. She preceded him in death on April 21, 1993. He later married Dara Shallenburger on January 25, 1998.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Marlene; his beloved companion, Helen Hayes; one sister, Connie Butler; and one great-grandchild, Caleb McClellan.
Survivors include his wife, Dara Shallenburger; one brother, Bobbie Mills, Jr. (wife, Diane) of Shawnee, OK; three daughters; Debbie Garrison (husband, Robert) of Webb City, and Tracy Carpenter (husband, Kurt) of Joplin amd Kim Gargus (husband, Sam) of Pleasant Hope, MO; one son, Frank Osborne (wife, Rebecca) of Broken Arrow, OK; grandchildren, Misti Moran (fiancé Jeff McClellan), Michael Gerlt, Ashley McDowell (husband, Ronnie), Hailey Carpenter, Austin Gargus (wife, Laura), Jessie Gargus (wife, Stephanie), Kara and Kyndel Gargus, Heather Utt, Courtney Osborne, Joshua Utt (wife, Taylor), Abram Osborne (wife, Angie) Tyler Utt, and Zane Osborne; and great-grandchildren Rick Moran (Garrett Cicero), Ayden Moran, Zach Moran, Rai Ann McClellan, Chloe Melanson, Lily Gerlt, Oliver Gerlt, Ariel and Neil Gargus, Jayden Gargus, Maci McDowell, Laken McDowell, Ryker Carpenter, Ethan Brunson, Jackson Stanford, Flynn Utt, Silas Osborne, and Zelda Osborne. He leaves behind many family and friends.
Mr. Shallenburger was entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home of Galena for cremation. The family will hold a memorial service at Lowell Cemetery on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at 10:00 AM. Online condolences may be expressed at www.derfeltfuneralhomes.com.
