Dennis M. Mathis, age 66 of Neosho, entered into rest on December 4, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, following a six month illness.
Dennis was born Nov. 4, 1951 in Carthage, Missouri, the son of John M. and Vera (Ritchie) Mathis. He was a lifelong area resident and had served in the U. S. Army, 1971-1972 in Vietnam. He worked as a welder for Lozier for over 30 years, retiring in 2012. He enjoyed baseball, fishing, old cars and he loved spending time with his family.
Dennis and Tina (Shaffer) were married on October 24, 1986 in Miami, Oklahoma and she survives. Additional survivors include five children, Angela Piepenbrink and husband, Paul; Cheron Southwick and husband, Shawn; Dennis Mathis, Jr.; Kelly Clemons and husband, James and Stephanie Zoromski and husband, Keith; two brothers, Rick Mathis and Rocky Mathis; five sisters, Sharon Bastings, Charlotte Sargent, Beth Pendergraft, Donna Mathis and Johnna Smith; fourteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; father in law and mother in law, Glen and Phyllis Shaffer and sister in law and brother in law, Glennis and Aaron Walker.
Services will be Friday, December 8, 2017 at 10:30 am at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories. Interment will follow in the Neosho IOOF Cemetery and serving as pallbearers will be Alan Piepenbrink, Bradley Piepenbrink, Jeffery Piepenbrink, Garrett Giles, Austin Dobbs and Keith Zoromski. Honorary pallbearer will be Trey Mathis. The family will receive friends Friday morning from 9:30 until service time.
