Ancel Lee Owens, Sr., age 80, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday, January 21, 2018, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon. He was born June 26, 1937, in Mt. Vernon, the son of Walter Edwards and Loma (Berry) Owens.
Ancel was a graduate of Mt. Vernon High School and served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era. He was a truck driver for Garrett’s Propane in Springfield and was a founding member of the Show Me Buggy Club in Springfield and attended the Northwest General Baptist Church in Springfield.
On September 18, 1958, he married Violet Louise LaShum, in Miami, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on January 29, 2004.
Ancel is survived by two sons, Anthony Owens and his wife, Christina, of Joplin, Missouri and Terry Owens of Springfield, Missouri; one sister, Karen Olsen and her husband, James of Cortez, Colorado; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
His parents, Walter and Loma, wife, Violet, two sons, Ancel Owens, Jr. and Rocky Owens and two sisters and one brother, preceded him in death.
A graveside service, under the direction of the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home, in Mt. Vernon, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 24, 2018, at the Summit Cemetery. Online condolences may be shared at www.FossettMosherFuneralHome.com.
