Marvin Eugene McKenzie, age 88, of Lamar, Missouri, passed away Saturday night, January 20, 2018 at Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada, Missouri.
Marvin was born October 14, 1929, the son of Alva and Florence (Kellogg) McKenzie. On December 3, 1973 at Miami, Oklahoma, Marvin married the love of his life, Velma Strong and they made their home in Lamar for the past 44 years. Marvin served in the Air Force for one tour of duty and retired from O’Sullivan Industries. Marvin also worked side by side with Velma, creating craft products, which they sold in area craft malls and enjoyed sharing the abundance of their vegetable gardens with neighbors and friends. Marvin and Velma were long-time faithful members of Cornerstone Southern Baptist Church, where Marvin was a deacon of the church. Marvin was willing to lend a hand to help when someone needed help and was good friend and neighbor to everyone.
Survivors include a son, Mike McKenzie, Joplin, Missouri; two grandchildren, Zack and Rachelle McKenzie; sisters Alvenna Valentine, Lamar, Missouri, and Mary Jane Kaderly, Belton, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Harris Cedar Park, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Marvin was preceded in death by his wife, Velma McKenzie, his parents, step-father, brothers, Leo Taft, Melvin Taft, Milford Taft, Roy Taft, and Art Taft; sisters Mildred Lindsey, Mary Lou Taft, and Rose Casey.
The family will receive friends, 10:00 am Friday, January 26, 2018 at Daniel Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 10:15 am. Entombment will follow in Lockwood Cemetery.
