Duane Smith

Harold Duane Smith, 73, of Joplin, passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2020, at Freeman Hospital.

Duane was born July 5, 1947, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, to the union of the late Charles Harold Smith and Iva Nora (Marrs) Smith. He was a forklift operator for Schreiber Foods for over 30 years before retiring.

Duane enjoyed watching NASCAR, coaching recreational softball teams, and working on old cars and trucks. When the girls were young, they would accompany Duane on his trips to local junk yards looking for parts and other small treasures. He loved getting to spend time with the grandkids, and their adventures included fishing and trips to the “Walmarts” as he called it. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.








On July 10, 1965, Duane was united in marriage to Karen Mae Boin in El Dorado Springs, Missouri. Together they shared 45 years and raised three daughters, before she proceeded him in death on March 23, 2010.

On June 6, 2015, Duane was united in marriage to Dena Graham in Carl Junction, Missouri. She survives at the home.

In addition to his parents and first wife, Duane was preceded in death by two sisters, Becky Stopp and Daphne Batchelder.

Duane is also survived by his three daughters, Bobbi Smith, Samantha Sill and husband, Jeff, Mary Byrom; grandchildren, Tyler Terry and wife, Noelle, Jeffrey Terry and wife, Abby, Logan Terry and wife, Hannah, Kyllie Luton and husband, Jack, Trevor Sill and wife, Courtney, Katie Hardman, Khloe Hardman; great grandchildren, Beau, Macy, Dane; sister, Marlene Hollingsworth; stepchildren, Kimberly Brake, Timothy Graham, Jeffery Stumph; as well as a host of extended family and friends.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.
