Joyce Thrasher

(From Ozark Funeral Home)

Joyce Thrasher, 88, of Anderson, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2020, at Oak Pointe Assisted Living Center in Neosho, Missouri. She entered this life on December 26, 1931, in Pontypridd, Wales, born to the late Lewis and Lena (Leighfield) Evans.

Joyce and her family moved from Wales, to New Malden during the depression. In the early years of World War II, as the bombings became more frequent, schools were shut down and evacuated.

As the danger increased and schools evacuated, Joyce and her cousin, Trevor Bolton, were forced to leave their parents in London, in order to find safety and continue with their education. Though a sad beginning, many fond memories were made during this time.

As a young woman, she enjoyed singing and performing with her local theatre company. At age 14, Joyce finished school and began work as an office junior for an engineering firm in England, quickly working her way up to become a secretary to the directors.

She soon met the love of her life and on August 23, 1958, she was united in marriage to Dennis Dale Thrasher, a handsome American Air Force officer. Dennis mentioned that marrying Joyce was “the best decision I ever made.” The couple later built a home and retired in Anderson, Missouri. Later in life, she moved to Oak Pointe Assisted Living Center in Neosho, Missouri. The staff grew quite fond of her. She loved music and the theatre, always enjoying the many musical presentations made by volunteers at Oak Pointe. Joyce will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She was a homemaker most of her life, as she enjoyed taking care of her children and was very proud of her family.

Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Lena (Leighfield) Evans; her husband, Dennis Dale Thrasher; and her brother, Allen Evans.

She is survived by her two sons, Mark Thrasher, of Kansas City, Missouri and David Thrasher and wife Christine of Bristol, England; her sister-in-law, Vicki Simmons of Augusta, Kansas; four grandchildren, Max Thrasher, Ella Thrasher, Charles Hardin, and Michael Hardin; she is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews that she loved very much.

A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at the New Bethel Cemetery in Anderson, Missouri. Those honoring her life by serving as pallbearers are Max Thrasher, Michael Hardin, Charles Hardin, Kenneth Harp, Roger Harp and Jerry Butts. In lieu of flowers the Thrasher Family kindly asks that memorial contributions be made to the Salvation Army in memory of Joyce.
