Barbara Orler

(From Ozark Funeral Home)

Mrs. Barbara June (Edmonds) Orler, age 84, of Anderson, Missouri departed this life on May 4, 2021 in Neosho, Missouri

Barbara was born on June 13, 1936 in Lanagan, Missouri, the youngest of three children of the late Ben and Bess (Chase) Edmonds.

She traveled extensively with her parents and siblings due to her father’s work, attending several grade schools from Texas to Ohio. Barbara graduated from Anderson High School in 1954, with honors, and was the only female in her high school woodworking class.

In fact, Barbara enjoyed woodworking as a hobby for the remainder of her life, making bird houses and other useful items for her friends and family.

Living on the family farm was enjoyable to Barbara, where she gardened, observed many orioles building nests, and fed hundreds (perhaps thousands) of hummingbirds. She was proud to attend her children’s sporting events and school activities, and she sewed beautiful clothing for her children and grandchildren. Barbara was a big fan of Elvis Presley and his music, and her Siamese cats provided her great joy and companionship over the years. She served the McDonald County School system for over twenty-four years, retiring as the Assistant to the Superintendent in 1999.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister Juanita (Edmonds) Kreiser; brother, Leonard Edmonds; infant daughter Nancy Orler, granddaughter Emily Vandergriff, and husband, Donald Joseph “Joe” Orler.

Barbara is survived by five children, Cathy Orler of Camdenton, Missouri, Robert Benjamin Orler (Julie) of Brighton, Michigan, Greg Orler (Leigh) of Dallas, Texas, Barbee (Orler) Vandergriff (Dean) of Carthage, Missouri, and John Douglas Orler (Mark Worstell) of St. Louis, Missouri; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; as well as many other family and friends.

Graveside services are 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 7, 2021, at Peace Valley Cemetery with Pastor Marilyn O’Brien officiating. On-line condolences may be sent to the family through our website, www.ozarkfuneralhome.com. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of the Ozark Funeral Home in Anderson, Missouri.
