Jack Smith

Jack Lindsay Smith, 71, a lifelong resident of Miami, OK, passed away on March 31st, 2023 at Mercy Hospital following a brief illness. 

Jack was the son of Richard “Dick" and Mary Smith. Jack followed his grandfather and father’s footsteps into the law field. His grandfather, JJ Smith, was a district judge. His father was also a district judge. 

Jack attended Oklahoma University and then attended law school at Oklahoma City University. Jack was a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association.








Jack moved back to Miami after law school and went to work at the District Attorney’s Office. He was instrumental in starting the Child Support Division through the DA Office. After this, went to work at Lollar & Butler Law Firm. He then moved to Hall, Loring, and Smith Law Firm. After this, he moved back the DA’s office and worked as First Assistant and again oversaw the Child Support Division. Jack then purchased Bob Lollar’s private practice and made it his own. He stayed in private practice until he retired.

Jack is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Mary Rebecca Smith. He is survived by his wife, Laura Smith of the home; his daughter, Lindsay Smith; his daughter Whitney Rush and spouse Ricky; his daughter Sadie Harrison and spouse Jeremiah; all of Miami; daughter Taylor Smith of Springfield; son Andy Brodrick of Springfield; and daughter Anna Brodrick of Joplin. Jack also had six grandchildren.

Jack was a lifelong, avid Oklahoma Sooners football fan. He also enjoyed playing golf with his friends. Another important part of Jack’s life was his dogs — Maggie Mae and Sassy.








The family of Jack Smith would like to thank the nurses and doctors at Mercy Hospital, Joplin for their kindness and compassion.

Visitation will be held at Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Miami from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, on Wednesday April 5, 2023.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, April 6, 2023 at First Christian Church with Reverend Phil Shyers officiating. Interment will follow at the Grand Army of the Republic Cemetery in Miami under the care of Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
