(From Clark Funeral Home)Tommy Dean Slinkard born April 28, 1949 to parents Virgil & Laura Slinkard of Jane, MO passed away January 17, 2025 at the Missouri veterans Home in Mt. Vernon with family by his side.
After graduating from McDonald County High School, Tom joined the Navy and spent several months on the rivers in Vietnam. After returning home, Tom traveled some, and one of his favorite memories was when he lived in Sanabell Island, Florida and sailed his sailboat several times to the Bahamas and back.
Then he suffered a medical event which had him live a simpler life. He lived with his parents, then his brother & sister-in-law in Joplin for many years, eventually spending the last 6 years at the Missouri Veterans Homes in Mt. Vernon enjoying the love and care provided to him up until the end of his life.
Tom will be remembered for his quiet acceptance to life and peaceful enjoyment being around friends and family. He is survived by his brother Leland Slinkard of Georgia, brother Terry Slinkard (Lois Ann) of Joplin, and eight nieces & nephews along with several great nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was his parents and brother Bill Slinkard of Tulsa, OK and Clayton & Bobby as infants.
Memorial Services will be announced at a later date.
