Freda Thomas

Freda Fern Grieb Thomas entered her eternal home on June 28, 2025.
She lived her life as a devoted wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend. 

Freda was born August 10th, 1923, in Jasper County MO. She was one of seven children born to Roy and Ruth Grieb and was preceded in death by all her siblings. 

In 1946, Freda married her husband, Wayne J. Thomas. They were married for 71 years before his death in 2017. 

Freda remained in the Carthage, Mo. area all her life. She was devoted to the Lord and serving others. She was always an active member in her church and faithfully taught Sunday School to both children and adult classes. She taught school in a one-room school south of Carthage for several years in the 1940s. She was secretary for Sun Oil and Michel’s Animal Hospital. She enjoyed volunteering in her community including McCune Brooks, The Blood Mobile, PTA, and Meals on Wheels.

Freda is survived by four children: Edward Thomas and wife Fran; Susan Thomas; Jeannette Thomas; Tom Thomas and wife Tonna. She also leaves behind eight Grandchildren: Jeanna Thomas; Tracy Johnson and husband Christopher; Anna Joy Thomas; Lisa Welch and husband T.J., Joshua Thomas and wife Lauren, Joe Thomas and wife Andrea, Jeremy Thomas and wife Noémie, Rebecca Moore and husband Alex, and 20 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be held on July 3rd, at 10:00 am at Carthage Nazarene, 2000 Grand, Carthage, MO. There will also be a time of visitation at 9:00 am preceding the service.
