Virginia Alice O'Neal, age 85 of Joplin, passed away at 7:50 a.m. on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, after a short illness.
Born May 6, 1930 in San Diego, CA, she was the only child of the late Leon and Grace Carter Alexander. Virginia moved to Joplin from Independence, MO in 1967 and was a homemaker. She received a bachelor degree in Geography from U.C.L.A. and her Paralegal certification from M.S.S.U. She was a member of Community of Christ and the D.A.V. She was active in a Tai Chi group and served as a Newton County election volunteer.
On January 29, 1957, she married Wayne L. (Bud) O'Neal at Las Vegas, NV. He preceded her in death on April 4, 1993.
Survivors include two daughters, Peggy O'Neal of Joplin, Kelly Brigham and husband Larry of Shawnee, KS; two sons, Dennis O'Neal and wife Tina of Frankfort, KY, John O'Neal of Wichita, KS; nine grandchildren, Jennifer Pattyson, Brenna O'Neal, Candice Mello, Sara and Emily Brigham, Miles, Ella, Penny and Hope O'Neal.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Parker Mortuary with Elder Lester Lay and Patsy Lay officiating. Interment will follow at Osborne Memorial Cemetery with family serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Parker Mortuary.
