Tom Johnson

Thomas E. 'Tom' Johnson, age 89, Webb City, passed away at 9:33 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2019 at his home after a lengthy illness.

Tom was born May 30, 1929 in Schenectady, New York and was the adopted son of the late William W. Johnson and Genevieve Alberta Hopkins.

Tom was one of the first employees of Eagle Picher Industries. He was employed there for 18 years as a quality control manager. He then worked as a quality analyst for the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant in Parsons for several years, retiring in 1991.

Tom kept busy by remodeling houses in his spare time. He enjoyed working with the Joplin Little Theatre Productions for years as a Stage Manager, bass fishing, and spending time with family. Tom was a Boy Scout leader and longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. Tom was a veteran of the United States Army, serving as a chief medical technician serving in Japan during the Korean War.

He married Mary Lee Bailey on June 30, 1961 in Joplin. She preceded him in death on January 20, 2016.








Survivors include a daughter, Melody Newburn and husband, Bill, Webb City; two sons, Jack Johnson and wife, Donna, Oronogo, Dan Johnson, Joplin; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Services are planned for Friday at 1:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Interment will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
