David Cavaness

SFC David Clarence Cavaness, USA Ret, age 90, went to be with his Lord on Monday, April 12, 2021 after a short illness in Freeman Neosho Hospital.

David was born October 12, 1930 in Omaha, Nebraska, the third child of R.B. and Jessie Cavaness. 

The family soon moved to Colorado, then Utah and finally to Salmon, Idaho, where he graduated from Salmon High School. He enlisted in the Army in 1951, where he served more than thirty years. 








 
For sixteen years he worked as a legal clerk for the Judge Advocate General and for 17 1/2 as a combat engineer. He received, among others, medals for Meritorious Service, Army Commendation, National Defense Service, Korean Service, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, and Army of Occupation. He worked in Korea, Vietnam, and Germany. He was married briefly to his wife, Barbara in the early 1970's.

Following his honorable discharge from the Army in 1984, he settled in Neosho, Missouri, caring for his mother until her passing in December 1989. He volunteered many hours with the nearby Billie James Hargis organization and was also heavily involved with the VFW in Webb City, Missouri for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, R.B. (Avelone) and Ben; two sisters, Virginia (Ralph) Kay and Rosemarie (Eugene) Schulz and nephews, Philip Michael Cavaness and Bruce Kay. He is survived by R.B.'s second wife, Barbara, Ben's wife Linda, Ralph's second wife, Jerene, nieces, nephews and their extended families.
