(From Knell Mortuary)Nellie Gertrude Shippy, 99, Carthage, Missouri, passed away early Monday, January 31, 2022, at her home. She was born October 4, 1922, in Lee Summit, Missouri, the daughter of the late Benny Martin and Florence (Benfield) Martin.
Nellie married Ralph Shippy on October 31, 1942, in Columbus, Georgia, he preceded her in death in 1998.
Nellie worked as a legal secretary for Edwards and Markey Law Office, earning secretary of the years for the state of Missouri one year. Nellie had a kindness about her towards people that she became known as momma Nellie to many people.
Nellie is survived by a son, Randy Shippy (Carol), Carthage, Missouri, four grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
Per Nellie’s wishes there was cremation and private family services will be held at a later date.
