Jackie “Jack” Nelson Smith, 78, passed away September 2, 2019 at his home in Carthage. Jack was born April 16, 1941 in St. Francis, KS to Elmer Roy and Delores “Arnold” Smith. Jack served in the United States Army 101st Airborne Division for 30 years, retiring as a Sgt. Major and accumulating 15,000 jumps. He also received his Master's Degree in Criminal Justice. After leaving the military, Jack owned and operated the Caddy Shack at Carthage Municipal Park.
Jack was united in marriage to Wanda “Calvin” on August 21, 1959 at the First Christian Church in Carthage; she survives. Recently, they celebrated 60 wonderful years together.
Jack also survived by one son, Stephen Smith of Fairview Heights, IL; one daughter, Sherri “Jodi” Smith of Nixa, MO; and one grandson, Spencer Smith of St. Charles, MO.
Jack was preceded in death by two brothers, Newton Smith and Val Gene Smith.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Ulmer Funeral Home. Services will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m.
