John Cook

Mr. John A. Cook, 93, of Joplin, Missouri, departed this life on Sunday, September 15, 2019, at Communities of Wildwood Ranch in Joplin, Missouri, after a recent decline in health.

John entered this life on May 10, 1926, in Sarcoxie, Missouri, son of the late Chesley and Ina Marie (Rosebrough) Cook. He was raised and attended school in Sarcoxie.

On September 27, 1944, he was drafted into the United States Navy. John served his country faithfully during WW-II in the South Pacific. 

On June 13, 1948, at Freistatt Lutheran Church, he was united in marriage to Theao Hagebusch and to this union twin sons were born, Michael and Mitchell. In 1950, they moved their family to Kansas City and for twenty years John was employed by Allen Chevrolet. They left Kansas City in 1968 and moved to Joplin. He retired in 1989 as field mechanic with the Missouri Department of Transportation. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and Earl J. Bruton VFW Post 534.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, James, Carl and Hal Cook; and a sister, Bertha Barnes.








John is survived by his wife of seventy-one years, Theao Cook of the home; two sons, Michael J. Cook and wife, Brenda, of Carl Junction and Mitchell J. Cook and wife, Sabrina, of Joplin; four grandchildren, Shane Cook, Trampes Cook, Shannon Irwin and Brandee Read; three great grandchildren; two brothers, Bob Cook of Carl Junction and Wendell Cook of Yuba City, California; two sisters, Mary Walker of Lamar, Missouri and Velma McBride of Carthage, Missouri; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 18, 2019, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Joplin with Pastor Gregory Mech officiating. Burial will follow in the Carl Junction Cemetery. 

Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Shane Cook, Trampes Cook, Gary Barnes, Kenny Owens, Brad Waltz, Chester McBride and Russ Cook with David Patterson and Phil Divine serving as honorary. 

The family will receive friends on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials are being directed to the Immanuel Lutheran Church c/o the mortuary. 

Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of the Parker Mortuary in Joplin, Missouri.
