Lewis Davis

(From Ozark Funeral Home)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Lewis Davis, who departed from this world on September 21 surrounded by family. Lewis was born on May 3, 1940, in Monett. On November 6, 1960, he married the love of his life, Gladys Faye Summers and they cherished 63 years and 10 months of beautiful companionship.

A distinguished veteran, Lewis served in the Navy for 20 years and achieved the rank of Senior Chief. His service during the Vietnam War was honored with the prestigious Navy Unit Commendation Bronze Star, Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation, Vietnam Service Medal with seven bronze stars, Vietnam Staff Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and four good conduct medals, in addition to other commendations.

His dedicated service concluded with his retirement on January 17, 1978. In May 2023, Lewis was honored with the Quilt of Honor from Tablerock Quilts of Honor, a testament to his remarkable contributions and service.

After retiring from the Navy, Lewis fulfilled a childhood dream of being a truck driver, embarking on an 18-year career as a long-haul truck driver. During that time he covered over 1 million miles without a single accident. His commitment to safety and responsibility was truly commendable.

In May 1999, Lewis made Noel his home and served his community admirably, holding the position of Mayor for three terms, 2009 - 2010 and from 2018 to 2021. His impact on the local community will always be remembered and cherished.

A devoted member of the Noel United Methodist Church, Lewis found solace and community within its walls. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Lewis is survived by his wife, Faye Davis, his brother, John Stout, and his cherished children: Pam Bennett (Chris), Robin Davis (Rick Porterfield), Lewis Davis (Martha), and Stacey Davis (Tim Miller).
