Ruby Gould

(From Parker Mortuary)

Ruby L. Gould (Carlton) passed away September 24th, 2024 after succumbing to the realization that after 96 years, her body could no longer keep up with her wit. To be fair, none of us really could. Ruby was born almost a century ago in Mississippi to the late John and Annie Carlton.

Ruby married her one and only husband Charles “Ray” Gould in 1947 and they moved to Carl Junction, MO in 1954. She must have loved him a lot because she had five children, all boys. Ray preceded her in death on St Patrick’s day 32 years ago.

Her sons, Rande Gould (wife Wendy), Donald R. Gould (intended Shirley), John R. Gould (Wife Debbie), & J. Ryan Gould (wife Jane) all survive their mother. Her son, W. Rhett Gould and her husband precede her in death. Ruby was very proud of her boys and enjoyed that they gave her ten grandchildren & step grandchildren, her twelve great-grandchildren and just these past two years she was very excited to welcome her first few great, great grandchildren.

Ruby did not live the kind of life that the news stations or locals take much notice of, unless you were a traffic officer, she loved to put the pedal to the metal. She was quick to grin and tell you a slightly inappropriate joke, or to show you exactly what she thought when you were teasing her by flying that little bird on her hand. A seamstress by trade, most of her family and friends will never freeze from all the crochet blankets, and later, the beautiful quilts she would create from start to finish in less than two weeks. The last quilt she made was one for her first great, great grandchild.

Ruby never asked for much, she was happy reading her romance novels when she wasn’t at work. Prior to her retirement at the young age of 90, once or twice a year her sons would get a phone call to let them know she had culled her annual deer on the way to work at 5 AM. She always kept folks on their toes and made us think that she was going to live forever. Her house smelled like bacon in the mornings, she grew her own tomatoes to enjoy with a little salt in the summers, and always had a pitcher of the sweetest, sweet tea you would ever taste in her refrigerator. A memorial service will be held time date place.

Those serving as pallbearers include John Gould, Don Gould, Ryan Gould, Jeff Gould, Bobby Gould and Darren Gould. Honorary pallbearers are Ashley Gould and C.C. Gould.
