Charles Young

Charles Young, Jr., age 77, passed away on Monday, January 3, 2022 at his home in Clinton, Missouri. A graveside memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, January 10, 2022 at Vansant Road Cemetery in Clinton, Missouri. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to The American Cancer Society and can be left in care of the funeral home.

Charles Edward Young, Jr., known by all as “Ed”, was born on January 16, 1944 in Carthage, Missouri to Charles Edward Young, Sr. and Imogene Young.








Ed’s education began in one room schools with at least five family members. Those five were often asked to sing at programs accompanied by his mother on the piano. He was a graduate of Alba High School. Ed attended small Baptist churches with his mother and siblings. He accepted Christ as his personal Savior at the age of twelve.

Ed was a fifth of ten children. He started his life on the family farm. He learned how to cut meat from his father when his family moved to Alba, Missouri to own Young’s Grocery Store. Ed was a meat cutter at Safeway in Carthage then went to Consumers. After Consumers closed, he partnered with Sam Morton in Sam & Ed’s IGA in Warrensburg and Clinton. After some struggles with the business, Ed went to work at Country Mart in Clinton where he later retired.

Ed and his wife Sheila built and owned Pine Street trailer court in Clinton. Family meant a lot to Charles he loved his grandchildren and enjoyed giving them rides through the trailer court on the lawn mower.

He was preceded in death by his parents Charley and Imogene Young, his stepdad Lee Reed, his son Steven Douglas Young, a sister Helen Young, Sue Howard, Betty Warden and his brother Pat Young, his baby boy Curtis Wade Young, grandson Sebastian Ladd.

Survivors include his wife Sheila of the home, 2 children; Chuck Young, Karen Smith, 3 stepchildren; Robbie Valentine, Michael (Suzette) Valentine, Janae Valentine, 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 5 siblings; Jean Campbell, Andy (Tilly) Young, Judy Brown, Mary Miller, George (Sharon) Young.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton, Missouri.
