Charles VanWey

Charles Glenn VanWey, 87, went to be with the Lord on February 6, 2022. He was born October 15, 1934 to Glenn Bryan and Edith “Lown” VanWey.

Charles accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at Fairview Christian Church, Carthage, Missouri.

He married Billie J. “Bumgarner” McLaughlin on April 23, 1971, in Carthage, Missouri.









He is survived by one sister, Florence (James) Still, Carthage, Missouri; two sons, Dennis (Trish) VanWey, Grove, Oklahoma, and Randy VanWey, Ahwahnee, California; two daughters, Vickie (Clint) Birdsong, Fresno, California, and Kim (Gerald) Peters, Reedley, California; two stepdaughters, Jackie (Tom) Asbell, Carterville, Missouri, and Linda (Ferrell) Hodge, Poplar Bluff, Missouri; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren; two step grandchildren, and numerous step great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn Bryan and Edith “Lown” VanWey; his wife, Billie J. “Bumgarner” VanWey; one son, Larry VanWey; one grandson, Corey VanWey; one brother, Everett VanWey; and four sisters, Viola Peoples, Rosie Harbison, Lois Templeton, and Wanda VanWey.

Charles worked for Atlas Powder, Hercules Powder, owned and operated Van’s Donut Shop in Carthage for many years, then worked for Bray Truck Lines, before going to work for and retiring from Bank of America.

Funeral services will be held 1 pm, Thursday, February 10, 2022 at Knell Mortuary, Carthage. Burial will follow the service at Park Cemetery, Carthage. Charles will lie in state from 8 am – 6 pm, Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at Knell Mortuary for those who wish to sign the register book and pay their respects. Memorial gifts are suggested to a charity of one’s choice in care of Knell Mortuary. Online condolences may be expressed through www.knellmortuary.com.
