(From Mason-Woodard Funeral Home)Carol Lee (Coats) Roughton, age 84 of Joplin, MO., entered into Heaven on Sunday, November 3, 2024.
Carol was born on October 13, 1940, in Joplin, the daughter of Robert and Dutch (Burkhart) Coats. She has been a lifetime area resident.
Carol spent her days loving and caring for her family. She considered being a homemaker her career choice. All her life she wanted to be a wife and mom. She didn’t like the title “housewife” she was a “homemaker” and proud of it! She also enjoyed volunteering whenever needed at school, scouts or church.
Church was a big part of her life. She served as a Sunday school teacher, VBS Director and librarian. She spent a lot of time developing a library system for Emmanuel Baptist in Webb City, MO.
She married Marvin Roughton on October 19, 1958, he preceded her in death on June 22, 2018. Carol was also preceded by her parents; a daughter, Brenda Pelham-Boyd; a son-in-law, Wayne Adkins; a brother, Kenneth Coats and a sister, Jean Lamb.
Carol is survived by her son; Michael Roughton and wife Jennifer of Joplin, a daughter; Debbie Adkins of Diamond, MO.; her sister-in-law, Ellen Wolf; her son-in-law; Rick Boyd, six grandchildren; Shawn Laughlin and wife Alisa, Adam Laughlin and wife Sarah, Christopher Laughlin and wife Kelli, Matthew Roughton and wife Megan, Luke Pelham and wife Monica, Hailey VanSlyke and husband Michael, and ten great-grandchildren; Jaden, Faith, Bailey, Jocee, Michal, Lilly, Emmit, L Betty, Olivia and Ellie.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 7, 2024, at the Mason-Woodard Chapel. Burial will follow at Burkhart Cemetery in Racine, MO. The family will receive friends during a time of visitation on Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
