Margaret Pippin

(From Yazel-Megli Funeral Home)

Margaret Elaine Pippin was born to Earl and Jane Pihl on August 19, 1948, in Lindsborg, KS. She graduated from Lindsborg High School in 1966 and from Bethany College in 1970, where she earned a BA degree in elementary education.

She began her teaching career in Lost Springs, KS, in 1971 after her marriage to Vic Hanson on June 5, 1970 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Lindsborg. She taught there until their daughter Jennifer was born in 1974. She became a stay-at-home mom until Jennifer and son Christopher, born in 1977, both were in school.

In 1983, the family moved from the Lincolnville area to Waverly, KS, where the family lived for four years. Margaret taught fifth grade there for three years.

In 1987 a move to Lorraine, KS, resulted in a year of substitute teaching, and a 1988 move to Marion resulted in a year as Title I Reading teacher aide at Marion Elementary.

In 1989, Margaret was hired by the Peabody-Burns school system to teach grades 4-6 at Burns Elementary. A year later she became the sixth grade teacher at Peabody Elementary. After teaching sixth grade for three years, she became a third and fourth grade teacher for her final years of teaching. She retired in 2008 after teaching for twenty-five years and then worked as a para for the Marion County Special Education Cooperative at Marion Elementary for seven years.

Margaret and Vic were divorced in May 1989. In May 1990, she met Dean Pippin, State Farm Agent in Marion. They were married at Homestead Friends Church in rural Chase County on July 28, 1991. After a lengthy battle with leukemia, he passed away on April 6, 1994.

Margaret was an active member of Marion Presbyterian Church. She loved to read and take daily walks. She took immaculate care of her home and lawn. She loved to visit with friends and spend time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents in 2000 and 2001 respectively, her sister Marilyn Glick in 1996, her stepson Dustin Pippin in 2023, her step-granddaughter Alicia Pippin in 2004, her stepdaughter Anita McAdoo, and her husband, Dean Pippin.

She is survived by a daughter Jennifer Strickland of Oronogo, MO; son Christopher Hanson and wife Rachel of South Lyon, MI; stepson Eric Pippin and wife Nicole of Silver Lake; stepson Brett Pippin and wife Jan of Junction City; five grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, and several step-great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Marion Assisted Living, Oak Pointe Memory Care of Neosho, MO, and Gentiva Hospice of Neosho, MO, for the excellent loving care they provided for Margaret in the last years of her life. Visitation will be held on Friday November 15th from 6-8 p.m. at Yazel Megli Funeral Home, Marion. Her memorial service will be held on Saturday November 16th at 1 p.m. at the Marion Presbyterian Church. She will be laid to rest in Marion Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Marion City Library or Marion Presbyterian Church. Please sign her online guestbook and leave a memory of Margaret at www.yazelmeglifh.com.
