Dennie Erwin

(From Parker Mortuary)

James Dennis “Dennie” Erwin, age 78, passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior on December 12, 2025, in Carthage, Missouri, after a full and meaningful life. He was born on February 1, 1947 in Webb City, MO and lived a life grounded in faith, family, service, and love.

He grew up in Carthage, Missouri, where he developed the values that would guide him throughout his life. He was a proud graduate and athlete of Carthage Senior High School and went on to earn his degree from Southwest Missouri State University. His strong work ethic, humility, and integrity were evident in all he did.

Faith was central to his life. In 1977, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior, a decision that shaped the rest of his life. He was actively involved in his church, serving in many capacities over the years, including teaching Sunday school, greeting congregants on Sundays and helping with a church plant. His faith was lived out daily through offering practical wise counsel and a sincere desire to help others, especially those who were struggling.

He found joy in life’s simple moments. He loved fishing, golfing, woodworking, and spent many hours working in his yard. He was an avid sports fan, cheering on his Kansas City Chiefs. Time spent with family, sharing stories, laughter, and faith, was what mattered most to him.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Katsy Erwin; his daughters, Meredith Delaney, Jennifer Hoke, and Charlotte Rice; his grandchildren, Hannah Lucas, Michael Whitehead, Clayton Whitehead, Annabelle Rice, Makennah Delaney, Ryan Delaney, Ethan Hoke, Caroline Hoke, Abby Hoke, Brylee Rice, Lander Rice; six great grandchildren; sisters, Lee Ann Branch (Jesse) and Sally Schmidt; nieces, Elizabeth Erwin Robertson and Sarah Elizabeth Erwin. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather whose legacy will live on through generations.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Galen and Annabel (Dennis) Erwin, and his brother, Lonnie Erwin.

A celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, December 30, at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Church of Oronogo, located in Oronogo, Missouri. The family invites friends for a time of visitation prior to the service at 10:00 a.m.

Donations may be made to Christ Church of Oronogo, in honor of his generous spirit and lifelong commitment to serving others.

Though he will be deeply missed, his family takes comfort in the promise of eternal life and the assurance that he is now whole, healed, and at peace with Christ.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary in Joplin, MO.
