John Howsmon

John T. Howsmon, 56, passed away peacefully at Cox Medical Center in Springfield, Missouri on May 1, 2021 after suffering a massive stroke six days earlier at his home in Neosho. 

John was born March 5, 1965 in Joplin, Missouri the son of Hugh and Lee Anne Howsmon. He graduated from Joplin Parkwood High School in 1983 and was a member of several Parkwood basketball and football teams, including the 1982 and 1983 State Football Champions, playing center.






 

After graduation, he attended the University of Missouri and obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration in 1987. John was a longtime entrepreneur in the local communities. He was CEO of his family's historic business, Howsmon's from 1988 until 2009 upon its closing. He served as CEO in several businesses he and his wife, Suzi owned and operated in the Neosho area including, Sam's Cellar Bar & Oven, Hubbub Co-Working Space, Red Door Properties and Red Door Facility Services. 

John and Suzi (Jones) were married on January 28, 2005 and they shared sixteen wonderful years together. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, James Howsmon of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Josh Howsmon, U.S. Coast Guard, New Orleans, Louisiana, Blake Altman of Neosho and Dusty (Stephanie) Altman of Neosho; his mother, Lee Anne Howsmon of Joplin; one brother, Joe Howsmon of Joplin; his father-n-law, Larry Jones of Neosho and his two cherished grandsons, Jones Altman and Brooks Altman of Neosho. 

He is preceded in death by his father, Hugh Cook Howsmon and mother-in-law, Dianne Jones.

Interment will follow in the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery, Joplin, Missouri.
