(From Clark Funeral Home)Max Thelmer Major was born October 5, 1946 in Carthage, Missouri, the son of John and Ruth (Barker) Major. He entered into rest on May 22, 2021 at his home at the age of 74.
Max graduated from Carthage High School in 1965. Max worked as a truck driver for 20 years and then as a supervisor for MoDot for ten years, retiring in 2012. He was a proud Veteran, having served his country in the U.S. Marines during Vietnam.
Max was a kind and gentle giant of a man, he loved his family, especially grandchildren; traveling in his RV, hunting, fishing and God’s nature. He was a member of St. Canera Catholic Church.
Max and Lyric (Herndon) were married on September 13, 2008 in Neosho and she survives of the home.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Chris (Mison) Major of Canton, Georgia; daughter, Shelly (Jake) McCoin and a son, Jerry Rentfro; grandchildren, Dusty (Mike) Cyliax, Paige (Justin) Woodward, Colby Herman, Gavin Herman, Jesse McCoin, Jordan McCoin, Jillian Rentfro, Olivia Rentfro and Cole Rentfro; great grandchildren, Bostyn Woodward and Arenna McCoin; two brothers, Darrell Wayne (Pam) Major and Marvin Ray (Debbie) Major, all of Neosho; four nephews, Denny Turner, Dusty Turner, Matt Major, and Sam Major; one niece, Amy (Donald) Carr; one great niece, Makayla Carr; two brothers in law, Woody (Loretta) Herndon and Gregg Herndon and two sisters in law, Monica (Gary) Dean and Christina (Brad) Larimer.
Max is preceded in death by two sons, Kenny Ray Major and Jeffery Scott Major; his parents and siblings, Perry Eugene Major and Barbara Ann Major Turner.
Rosary services will be at 5:30 pm Wednesday at the Clark Funeral Home with visitation to follow until 7:30 pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 1 pm at Saint Canera Catholic Church, Father Charles Dunn will officiate. Interment and military honors will follow in the Diamond Cemetery and serving as pallbearers will be Darrell Major, Donald Carr, Chris Yates, Colby Herman, Gavin Herman and Davey Crockett and honorary pallbearer, Justin Woodward.
