Sue James

Suzanne Grace “Sue” James, age 81, Joplin, passed away on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Joplin Gardens.

Sue was born October 6, 1940 in Joplin, daughter of the late Kenney Miller and Stella E (Boles) Miller. 

She grew up in Joplin and graduated from Joplin High School before going to work for First National Bank and then Mercantile Bank in Joplin where she enjoyed her time for over 35 years before retiring in 1998. 








She was a longtime member of St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, and enjoyed watching old movies, and traveling with her husband Jack, over the years.

In addition to her father and mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack J. James, who passed away on December 11, 2006.

Survivors include her son, Dustin Smith and wife Dana of Athens, Alabama; step-mother, Marie Miller of Joplin; sisters, Linda Cupp of Joplin, Karen Pace and husband Mark of Joplin, Kathie Meyer and husband Don of Carl Junction; her brother, Keith Miller and wife Jean of Joplin; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Memorial service will be Thursday, January 5, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church with Father Frank Sierra officiating.

Sue’s ashes will be placed in the St. Philip’s Columbarium following the service.

The family will have a time of reflection with family and friends following the inurnment in St. Margaret’s Hall at the church.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
