Lloyd York

Lloyd M. York, age 96, of Redings Mill, passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at The Arbors at Silver Creek in Joplin.

Lloyd, son of the late Otis and Herma (Byrd) York, was born on April 6, 1926, in Joplin. After graduating from Joplin High School in 1944, Lloyd enlisted in the United States Navy where he served his country honorably during World War II. 

After returning from the Navy, he then attended Joplin Jr. College for two years. He was united in marriage to Alberta Junge 70 years ago on December 6, 1952, at the First Community Church in Joplin.








Lloyd started his career in 1946 when he went to work for Thurston Chemical, later becoming W.R. Grace & Co. After 42 years of employment, he retired in 1988 as the Supervisor of Marketing and Management. He was an avid bowler, being a member of the Greater Joplin Men’s Bowling Association and earned his spot on the Greater Joplin USBC Bowling Hall of Fame. He enjoyed fishing and working in his yard along Shoal Creek. He was a devoted and caring husband and father who adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved being active in their lives and extracurricular activities.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Alberta York, of Redings Mill; one daughter, Deion Dees, of Joplin; a daughter-in-law, Janice York, of Terrell, TX; two grandsons, Jared Yust, and his wife, Kelly, of Rogersville, MO, and Jordan Yust, and his wife, Beth, of Olathe, KS; two granddaughters, Kenzie Webb, and her husband, Michael, of Gainsville, TX, and Lauren Moss, and her husband, Stephen of Beggs, OK; a sister-in-law, Ann Junge, of Joplin; one nephew, Rance Junge, and his wife, Vivi, of Joplin; four nieces, Julie Warman, of Springfield, Vicky Branch and her husband, Chris, of Joplin, Sandy Doerge, and her husband, Chris, of Joplin, and Judy Roman, and her husband, Tom, of Plano, TX; and nine great grandchildren. 








In addition to his parents, Lloyd was preceded in death by one brother, Ralph York; two sisters, Rene Garrett, and Betty Yates; and one son, David York.

A Celebration of Life will be held on January 12, 2023, beginning at 12:30 PM until 2:30 PM at Parker Mortuary in Joplin.

Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin.
