Jim Murray

(From Parker Mortuary)

James A. Murray, age 71 of Joplin, Missouri, passed unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, November 15, 2023.

Jim was born on September 13, 1952 in Granby, Missouri to the late Burr and Dorothy (Stinnette) Murray. He graduated from Neosho High School and immediately left to serve our country in the United States Air Force for four years.

Jim was a hard worker all of his life. He was very much involved in his community while serving as a Police Officer for the city of Goodman or a Deputy Sheriff for McDonald County. He worked for the Goodman Post Office and prior to retiring, he was working with Goodman Building Supply. Jim was active in volunteering for both the Missouri Association of the Blind and the Joplin D.A.V. chapter. He was a huge advocate for veterans everywhere!

Jim has two daughters that were very special to him, Amanda Kent (Jason) of Joplin and Pamela DePriest (Joshua) of Goodman. His two grandkids meant the world to him, Jaxon and Brooklyn Kent. For over 25 years together, Jim could be found with his best friend and companion in life, Verna Williams. He is also survived by a sister, Eileen Dell of Granby.

Other than his parents, Jim is preceded in death by a grandchild, Arie DePriest and siblings, Steve Murray and Katherine Reed.

A comital of ashes and military honors will take place at a later date at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Webb City, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the D.A.V. Chapter 52, in care of the mortuary.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
