Rosie Butterfield

Roselle “Rosie” Mae Butterfield, age 80, of Neosho, MO, entered her forever home on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at Mercy Hospital Joplin.

Rosie was born on June 19, 1944 in Fortuna, MO, to Waldo and Helen (Fulks) Hofstetter. She was raised on a farm near Fortuna and graduated from Tipton High School in 1962. 








Shortly after graduating she married Don David Charles on August 3, 1963 in Latham, MO. Together they were blessed with 24 years of marriage before his passing. To this union was born two children, Dawn and Jeff. She worked at Wyatt’s Cafeteria for a few years, then went on to work as a secretary for several Joplin police chiefs. 

After working at the police station, she moved to Jefferson City and worked for the Highway Patrol. After some time in Jefferson City, she moved back to Joplin and worked for Troop D of the Carthage Highway Patrol, where she eventually retired. 

Once she had settled back into the Joplin area, she married Jack Butterfield on April 2, 1994 in Neosho, MO. Together they were blessed with 24 years before his passing on October 28, 2018. 

Rosie enjoyed watering her flower beds, feeding the hummingbirds, putting together puzzles, playing cards with her family, and singing. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Rosie was an amazing cook and if you ever ate at the house, she made sure you never left hungry and always had a container of leftovers to take with you. She worked tirelessly with The Forge to prepare meals for the homeless. She loved serving others and making sure everyone was taken care of. Rosie was a blessing to many.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Howard Hofstetter.

Rosie is survived by her two children, Dawn Charles, of Moore, OK, and Jeff Charles and wife, Crystal, of Neosho, MO; one sister, Charlene Cook and husband, Lawrence, of California, MO; two sister-in-laws, Barbara Hofstetter, of St. Peters, MO, and Irene Charles, of Kansas City, MO; five grandchildren, Zach and wife, Shaya, Alexander, Courtney and husband, Caleb, Christopher and wife, Victoria, and Joeli; three great-grandchildren, August, Charlotte, and Asher; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made out to Watered Gardens or Royal Heights Methodist Church.








Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 10th, 2024 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Royal Heights Methodist Church with funeral services to begin at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Steve Thomas officiating.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, August 12th, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Masonic Cemetery in Tipton, MO.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are: Zach, Alex, Courtney, Christopher, Joeli, and Michael.

Funeral arrangements are under the special care and direction of Parker Mortuary.
