Sandra Miller

(From Clark Funeral Home)

Sandra Jenean (Filsinger) Miller, 74, Diamond, went to heaven on February 27, 2020 peacefully in the comfort of her home with her husband and daughter by her side, following an eight week illness. No more wonderful mother and wife has ever passed through the gates of heaven.

Sandra was born Nov. 30, 1945 in Diamond, the daughter of Roscoe and Edna Hamilton. She enjoyed an active childhood in the company of four equally rambunctious youngsters. Her brothers, Ronnie, David and Mike and her dearly beloved sister, Joyce traveled to the west coast for a while, but came back to Missouri to settle down.

On June 8, 1963, Jenean married a multi-talented, hard-working young man named Gary Filsinger. From this union came a lovely lass they named Deronda. She fondly remembers today their many adventures on the motorcycles they all loved to ride. Her mom even won a powder puff derby in a dragster! Who Knew??? Of course, after they settled down a bit, Jenean and Gary became the rock that so many relied on during their tenures as ministers for the Wesleyan Holiness Church at Tulsa, OK, Dennis, KS and Wichita, KS (17 years) and finally at Diamond.

Gary relied on Jenean for all those many tasks that preacher’s wives find in their care. She never failed to keep the focus on her husband’s ministry as she found the resources (and sometimes the courage) to keep the train on the track until his untimely death on July 9, 2009. She also worked as a bookkeeper in Parsons, KS for several years, a job she loved.

In February 2011, Jenean married Joe Miller, a very lucky man she made very happy these past nine years.

In addition to her husband, Jenean is survived by her daughter, Deronda Aiken of Wichita, KS; one brother, Ronald (Fran) Hamilton of Independence, KS and one sister, Joyce (John) Sterbenz of Riverton, KS.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by two brothers, David and Mike Hamilton.

Services will be held on Monday, March 2, 2020 at 2 pm at the Clark Funeral Home Granby Chapel, Rev. Danny Perryman and Rev. Ivan Hazelwood will officiate. Interment will follow in the Diamond Cemetery and serving as pallbearers will be Arlen Hamilton, Monte Hamilton, Todd Hamilton, Edward Miller, Stephen Miller and Philip Shimp and honorary pallbearers, Danny Hunter and Raymond Rash.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2 -3 pm at the Clark Funeral Home, Granby. Contributions in memory of Jenean may be made to Integrity Hospice, c/o Clark Funeral Home, PO Box 26, Granby, MO 64844.

Dwayne Steinle

(From Carson-Wall Funeral Home)

Dwayne Julian Steinle, 88, Parsons, passed away at 1:55 A.M., Thursday, February 27, 2020 at the Parsons Good Samaritan Center after a brief illness.

Dwayne was born July 18, 1931 in Parsons, KS to Henry G. and Leola A. (Lohman) Steinle. He grew up attending Parsons schools. He was active in tennis and football.

During his high school and college years, he worked part time as a photographer taking portraits. He attended Labette Community College before transferring to Ottawa University, majoring in math. While attending Ottawa University, Dwayne was drafted into the Army during the Korean War. After basic training he was sent to a special school to become a crystal grinder in the signal corp. However, when he arrived in Korea, he was put in charge of a photo lab in the signal depot. After returning from Korea, Dwayne graduated from Ottawa University.

On December 20, 1956 Dwayne and Betty J. Murnan were married.

That same year he opened Dwayne’s Photo. While running Dwayne’s Photo, he also worked part time for several years as a private investigator doing photo surveillance for insurance companies. Dwayne’s Photo changed and grew over time. It began as a small photo lab doing black and white work for stores in the local area. Kodak strongly advised Dwayne against getting into color film processing. They thought Parsons KS was too small to justify it. Despite the advice, Dwayne proceeded with his plan. In the 1970’s Dwayne’s Photo added photo drive-up kiosks. He had 19 locations in the tri-state area. In the late 1980’s and 1990’s Dwayne’s Photo changed focus to doing special kinds of film for national retailers. In the 1990’s Dwayne’s Photo was processing all the black & white film and slide film for Wal-Mart stores across the entire country. By the end of the 1990’s Dwayne’s Photo employed 200 people. During that period, Dwayne’s son, Grant, joined him in managing the business, and later took over day to day operations.

In 2010, Dwayne’s Photo gained international recognition for being the last photo lab in the world to process Kodachrome slide film. The Today Show and CBS Sunday Morning came to Parsons to interview him and both did a segment on Dwayne and the photo lab. There was a front-page story in the New York Times about Dwayne’s Photo and the end of Kodachrome. A few years later a Netflix movie was made called, “Kodachrome” An actor played Dwayne in the movie. Dwayne personally shot the last roll of Kodachrome film ever processed and it contained pictures of his family.

Dwayne was active in various organizations including PMA (Photo Marketing Association), Parsons Rotary Club, the First Baptist Church, and the Iron Horse Historical Society.

He is survived by his wife Betty Steinle of the home. A son Grant (Emily) Steinle of Parsons Kansas. A daughter Maura Carter of Joplin MO. A daughter Leah (Craig) Newland of Parsons, KS. A daughter Cyrele (Rob) Clausen of Emporia, KS, and nine grandchildren.

Private graveside services will be held at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Tim Bever officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Monday, March 2, 2020 at the
Carson-Wall Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church or to the Parsons Historical Society Museum and may be left at or mailed to the funeral home, P.O. Box 942, Parsons, KS 67357. Online condolences may be left at www.wallfuneralservices.com.

Judy Mooneyham

(From Clark Funeral Home)

December 27, 1937 to February 23, 2020

"All earthly matters fade away when Heaven cannot wait another day."

Heaven welcomed another angel today. Judith Ann 'Judy' Houk was born in the village of Saginaw, Missouri to Pete and Oleta Houk. She was the only daughter among their three sons.

Music was a cornerstone of Judy's entire life. Accompanied on the piano by her mother, she excelled as first soprano at a tender age. She sang in her church choir and participated in the National School, Band, Orchestra and Vocal Association amonth other competitions with her vocal performances.

Judy recounted her most vivid childhood memories as part of an elementary school project for her grandon, Danny. She told him of the time in 1945 when the end of World War II was announced on the family radio. She was extremely excited when her mother granted her permission to relay the news outside to her father and the other men laboring in the fields.

As a teen, the mayor of Neosho crowned Judy as "Queen of the Strawberry Festival" at the fairgrounds with five hundred people in attendance and over thirteen thousand votes cast that week. Upon Judy's Freshman year at Neosho High School she was nominated as a candidate for Homecoming Queen.

Soon, she would catch the eye of an upper classman, Jerry Dan "J.D." Mooneyham, who was sewpt off his feet and took her as his bride in August of 1954. They have recently reached their sixty-fifth wedding anniversary.

Following Jerry's Naval Service and college graduation from Pittsburgh, Kansas, the young couple ultimately relocated to St. Louis, Missouri. There they raised their two daughters, Stephany Michele and Lu Ann and their only son, Gregory Dan.

Judy continued her singing through adulthood with church choirs and special choral groups, some of which sang in Italian and German. With these groups she performed in nursing homes and other civic events. She volunteered as school roommother, Browning Troop Co-Leader, and served in various civic organizations. In Eureka, Missouri she joined the "Newcomer's Club" which became a group of permanent friends and social club for many years.

As co-owner with Jerry in their travel business, Judy visited nearly every state in the country as well as provinces in Canada. Her favorite trip was to view the fall foliage each year in New England. Together, with their travel partners, Bill and Betty Mooneyham, they toured Venice and other cities in Italy, Austria, Germany and Switzerland. They also enjoyed several Caribbean Cruises.

Judy steadfastly cared for her mother, Mom Houk and her son, Greg, until their passing. It was her final wish to be reunited with them in heaven.

Judy is survived by her loving husband, Jerry D. Mooneyham, her brother, Gary Dwayne "Pokey" Houk, daughters, Stephany Michele (Rossier) and Lu Ann (Michaelree) and grandsons, Parker Kent and Connor Jordan Rossier and Matthew Jason and Daniel Paul Michaelree, many nieces and nephews and other family members.
