Donna Lett

Donna Sue Lett, age 61, passed away July 16, 2023, in Kansas City, Ks. She was born November 29, 1961, in Miami, Ok, to Lora and Melvin Lett and was the second youngest of eight children. 

She graduated from Memorial High School of Joplin, Mo in 1980 enlisted in the Army following her graduation. She was honorably discharged after seven years of service. She then began her employment with Schreiber foods in Carthage, Mo.








Donna was married to Raul Aponte for 20+ years and had three children together. Susan Crespino (Kevin) of Carl Junction, Donna Maria Darker (Kyle) of Carl Junction and Carlos Aponte of Joplin, Mo. Donna enjoyed spending time with her family and was always seen with a book in her hands.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lora and Melvin Lett of Joplin, Mo, siblings, Nora Darlene Lett, Marie Lett of McAlister, Ok, Mark Lett of Joplin, Mo, Tommy Lett of Joplin, Mo and Warren Lett of Joplin, Mo. Donna is survived by her siblings, Frank Lett of Joplin, Mo and Sandra Crim of Wichita, Ks, children Susan, Donna Maria Daker and Carlos Aponte. Four grandchildren; Cameron and Morgan Crespino of Carl Junction, Mo and Destiney and Brayden Aponte of Joplin, Mo.








A full Military Honors Graveside service will be held Saturday August 5, 2023, at 10:00 am at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow at Granny Shaffer’s (Parking in the back) 2728 N Rangeline Rd, Joplin, MO.

Judy Hutson

Judith Kay (Schoenhofer) Hutson (Judy), 80, of Carthage, Mo., died on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Freeman Hospital in Joplin.

She was born on April 13, 1943, in Kansas City, Kansas to Vincent and Mildred (Mack) Schoenhofer.

She attended Lowell Elementary school. A 1961 graduate of Wyandotte High School in Kansas City, Kan., she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kan.








After teaching school in Kansas City, Kan., for three years, she moved to Prairie View, Kan. There she met the love of her life, Wayne Hutson. They married on April 5, 1969, and later had two children, Kaylea and William. After running a dairy farm in Almena, Kan., for many years, the family moved to their present home in rural Carthage iin 1982.

Because it was important for her to have a close walk with God, no matter the label, she attended multiple churches including both First United Presbyterian and London Heights Baptist churches in KCK; Almena United Methodist Church in Almena, Kan., First United Methodist Church in Carthage and First Baptist Church in Diamond. She taught Sunday School for many years.

She was a member of the National Honor Society, Phi Theta Kappa and Delta Kappa Gamma, an organization of women teachers.

After teaching 14 years, she worked briefly as an assistant house parent and as a trainer at the workshop for special needs adults. She spent 25 years as a caseworker for the Missouri Department of Human Services.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Dale Schoenhofer; and her sister Janice Warner.








Survivors include her husband, Wayne, of the home; son William Hutson, Carthage; daughter Kaylea (Frank) Hutson-Miller of Cleora, Okla.; a sister, Joan Smith, Eudora, Kan.; two grandchildren, Collin Hutson, Carthage, and Taylor (Alex) Stasurak, Bradenton, Fla.; and three great-grandchildren Eleanor, Lincoln and Abigail Stasurak; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation is at 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 2, at Knell Mortuary in Carthage. Services are set for 10 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 3, also at Knell Mortuary, with a graveside service following at Fullerton Cemetery, south of Carthage.

Phyllis McClellan

Phyllis June McClellan of Miami, OK passed from this life Monday, July 31, 2023 at Eastwood Manor in Commerce, OK. She was 90.

Phyllis was born November 2, 1932 in Carrollton, AR to Willie Loy and Bertha Lee (Briscoe) McClellan. She had lived in the Miami, OK, Seneca, MO and Anderson, MO area most of her life. 

Phyllis was a dietician for Integris Miami Hospital for 30 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Miami, OK and taught Sunday school there for many years.

She is survived by numerous cousins.

Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 4, 2023 at Owsley Cemetery, east of Anderson, MO. Pastor Leon Weece will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Miami, OK.

Gary Gunlock

Mr. Gary Wayne Gunlock, 86, of Carl Junction, Missouri, formerly of Webb City, Missouri, departed this life on Friday, July 28, 2023.

Gary entered this life on July 8, 1937, in Redings Mill, Missouri, the only son born to the late Harry A. Jr. and O. Naomi (Drake) Gunlock. He was raised in the Redings Mill area and was a 1955 graduate of Seneca High School. Gary furthered his education by attending the former Joplin Junior College. 

On May 18, 1956, he was united in marriage to Lillie Mae Copher and to this union three children were born, Terri, Randall and Michael.








Gary was deeply devoted to his family. He was admired and respected by all that knew him. With the support of his wife, Gary flourished in his career in the trucking industry. He was vice president of Tri-state Motor Transit, Joplin, Missouri, and president of multiple other trucking companies. As a leader and mentor to generations of members, he served the Webb City Church of the Nazarene for over 60 years. Whether running, golfing, water skiing, walking, or lifting weights, he was dedicated to an active lifestyle. He left behind a legacy of love and faith that will live on in his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Peggy Brock, Karen Cooper, Virginia Peavler and Barbara Gunlock; brothers-in-law, Gene Smith, and Richard Brock; and great-grandson, Andrew Paul Merritt.

Gary is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Lillie Mae Gunlock, of the home; three children, Terri Sue Gunlock Garrett and husband, Tony, of Eagle Rock, Missouri, Randall Wayne Gunlock and wife, Betsy, of Carl Junction and Dr. Michael Gary Gunlock and wife, Martha, of Boulder, Colorado; nine grandchildren, Trisha Moore (Dustin), Angela Schreiner (Derek), Shelli Merritt (Michael), Tara Dill (Tyler), Sharon Lindsey, Jamie Lindsey, Chase Gunlock, Parker Gunlock and Graham Gunlock; ten great-grandchildren, Weston Moore, Hailey Merritt, Kelsey Moore, Taylor Merritt, Sladen Schreiner, Kaitlyn Merritt, Brooklyn Schreiner, Owen Dill, and 4-year-old twins, Lawson & Griffin Dill; a sister, Donna Smith of Joplin; brothers-in-law Bud Cooper and Lanny Peavler; as well as a host of other family and friends.








Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at the Webb City Church of the Nazarene with Pastors Dustin Ledford and Chad Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Webb City. 

Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Dustin Moore, Michael Merritt, Derek Schreiner, Tyler Dill, Chase Gunlock, Weston Moore, Graham Gunlock and Sladen Schreiner. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 5-7:00 p.m. at the church. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials are being directed to Webb City Church of the Nazarene for Youth Camp c/o the funeral home. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home in Webb City, Missouri.

Orville Wiseman

Reverend Orville Lee Wiseman, Sr., age 87, of Cassville, Missouri stepped over into glory on Friday, July 28, 2023.

He was born on January 3, 1936 in Butterfield, Missouri the son of Thomas Isaac and Agnes (Spain) Wiseman. 

On November 22, 1957 in Monett, Missouri he was united in marriage to Shirley Moore, who preceded him in death on November 14, 2003. In September of 2008 in Aurora, Missouri he was united in marriage to Sylvia Leeann Crumm, who preceded him in death on April 4, 2015. 








Also preceding him in death were his parents; one son, Orville Wiseman, Jr.; two daughters, Rita and Renée; one sister, Dorothy and two brothers, Cecil and Lonnie.

Surviving are two sons, James Wiseman and his wife Deanna of Cassville, Missouri and David Wiseman and his wife Debbie of Anderson, South Carolina; three daughters, Sandra Harris and her husband John of Marionville, Missouri, Pamela Taylor of Miami, Oklahoma and Rebecca Lane and her husband Chris of Diamond, Missouri; 12 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

Orville grew up and attended school in Butterfield, Missouri. He was an Apostolic minister for over 50 years and drove a milk truck for Kraft for many years among other occupations. Orville was pastor at Cassville United Pentecostal Church in Cassville, Missouri, Cornerstone Pentecostal Church in Joplin, Missouri and ministered in several other churches. He loved to study the Bible, visit with people and watch TV, especially the Kansas City Chiefs. Orville last attended Landmark Church in Logan, Missouri.








Services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Reverend David Wiseman and Brother Chris Lane will conduct the services. Burial will be at Antioch Cemetery in Cassville, Missouri.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 P.M. Monday at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville.

Contributions may be made to Compassus Hospice in memory of Orville.

Glenn Brumback

Glenn Edward Brumback, 96, went to his reward on July 29, 2023. He was born on October 22, 1926 to Edward and Maida (Childress) Brumback on the family farm near Diggins, MO. He graduated from Seneca High School in 1944 and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Navy the next day. 

Glenn served in the South Pacific until the end of World War II. He returned home and went to work for BF Goodrich while attending NEO A&M where he graduated in 1950 with a degree in agriculture. He married Anna Higginbotham on May 20, 1949.






 

While working on the family farm, Glenn also worked for Spencer Chemical, Meadow Gold, and as a guard at Fort Crowder Federal Prison. In 1957, he started working as a welder for Rocketdyne. After Rocketdyne relocated, Glenn attended Franklin Technical Institute, where he became a certified machinist; and later helped build the La-Z-Boy plant in Neosho. He worked in the maintenance department at La-Z-Boy and later, the tooling department until his retirement. All his life, Glenn worked his farm.

Glenn is survived by his wife, Anna. Also survive are his children: Robert Brumback; Cathi and Barry Ruddick; Connie and Larry Clack; David and Sandy Brumback; Cheryl and Lonnie Lawson; Lori and Tom Stith; and Chris Brumback. Additional survivors include five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Many cousins also survive.

Glenn is preceded in death by parents, one brother, one sister, a half-brother, and a great-grandchild.

Larry Brumfield

James Larry Brumfield was born November 22, 1944, in Poplarville, Mississippi, one of five children to Otis and Virgie (Spears) Brumfield. He entered into rest on July 28, 2023, in Carthage, Missouri, at the age of 78. 

Larry was a graduate of Granby High School and worked as a truck driver for MFA. He served his country in the U.S. Army, April 3, 1968 through April 2, 1974, during the Vietnam era. 








Larry loved spending time with his son and all of his family. He was a member of Joplin Heights Baptist Church. 

 Larry is survived by a son, Keith Brumfield and wife, Becca of Diamond; two grandchildren, Kyle Brumfield and wife, Shelby of Seneca, Missouri and Kendra Adams and husband, Joe of Alaska; four great grandchildren, Logan Brumfield, Beau, Zane, Remy and baby Adams due to arrive in 2024 and numerous nieces, nephews and other family. 

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Tina; his parents and siblings, O.T. and Lance Brumfield, Shirley Copeland and infant sister. 








Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 3, 2023, at 2 pm at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, Pastor Keith Brumfield will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 pm until service time. Full military honors and interment will be in the Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery, Springfield, MO.

Everett Smith

Everett “Red” Smith 74, of Southwest City, Missouri passed away on Friday, July 28, 2023, at his home after a hard-fought battle with esophageal cancer, with his wife of forty-four years at his side.

Everett “Red” Smith served four years in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam. He was a machinist, mechanic and truck driver, retiring from Tyson Foods.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harley Smith, mother Nancy Lancaster and stepfather, Claude Lancaster.








Everett is survived by his wife Jody of the home; sons, Everett Jr. (Cheri) of Baltimore, MD and Christopher Smith (Jennifer) of Norman, OK; Stephen Smith of Nashville, TN; six grandchildren, Aidan, Teagan, Noam, Leighanna, Leighton, and Elora; two younger brothers Larry Smith (Rebecca) of Tulsa, OK and Mark Smith (Debbie) of Rogers, AR; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

At his request no formal services will be held at this time. A private family gathering with be held at a later date.

Marilyn Gibson

Marilyn Sue Gibson went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at the age of 75. Marilyn was born to George M. Cummins and Evelyn R. (McCullough) Cummins on September 23, 1947, both of whom preceded her in death.

Marilyn graduated from Joplin High School in 1965 and soon went to work for Southwestern Bell where she worked for 22 years. After returning to Joplin, she entered the insurance business and retired from The Insurance Center in 2011.








Marilyn married Jerry Gibson on February 15, 1980. Marilyn and Jerry were married until he passed away in June of 1992. She later married Reuben White who also preceded her in death in August of 2012.

Marilyn is survived by her sister, Linda Englert; a nephew, Scott Daniels, her niece, Leslie Daniels, and, and her beloved cat, Izzy, all of Joplin.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 4, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with Deacon Carol Peterson of St Philips Episcopal Church officiating. Marilyn will be laid to rest next to her husband, Jerry.






 

The family would like to express their gratitude to the administration and staff of the Foxberry Terrace Assisted Living for the wonderful and loving care they provided Marilyn in her last days. They would also like to express their appreciation to the administration and staff of Compassus Hospice and Gentiva Hospice groups of Joplin and those from Cornerstone Caregiving Home Care all of whom supported Marilyn and our family.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Golden Paw Pet Rescue at 2300 N. Main St. in Joplin.

Shirley Busick

Shirley Ann Busick, age 87, Joplin, Missouri, passed away on July 26, 2023.

Shirley was born on January 14, 1936 in Joplin, Missouri, to the late Edwin T. Cook and Mabel L. (DuRall) Cook. She was united in marriage to her loving husband, Godfrey Busick, on July 26, 1952. Together, they enjoyed raising their five children. 

Shirley was a talented artist and loved to paint and sew. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Joplin, Missouri. Shirley had a caring heart and showed that through her work as a nurse.








Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Godfrey R.Busick Jr., sons Larry G. Busick, Sr., and Godfrey R. Busick III, and her brother, Edwin T. Cook, Jr.

She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Claybrook (Jay) of Spring, Texas; daughter, Brenda Fahmy (Samir) of Joplin, Missouri, son, Charles E. Busick of Joplin, Missouri; sister Wanda Carpenter of Wichita, Kansas; 13 grandchildren, 29 great – grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and extended family members. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A memorial service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2203 Indiana Avenue Joplin, MO 64804 on Thursday, August 3, 2023 at 12:30 pm. A luncheon will be provided after the service.

John Sehnert

John Keeton Sehnert, 59, of Sarcoxie, Missouri, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2023 at the Sarcoxie Nursing Center.

John entered this life on Saturday, November 9, 1963 to the union of the late John and Ardith (Burner) Sehnert. John was a 1982 graduate of Sarcoxie High School and later attended Missouri Southern State University. He was employed by Wilbert Vault Company for several years. John was a nature lover and spent watching birds and small animals as well as being involved with his church family.








He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; and his sister, Mariellen Ellifrits.

John is survived by his children, Kayla Adams Sehnert and Kyler Sehnert, both of Joplin; two grandchildren, Connor and Zack; as well as a host of other family and friends.








No formal services will be held at this time. Memorial contributions may be directed and mailed to the Sarcoxie Nursing Center.

Cremation arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home in Sarcoxie, Missouri.

Kenneth Edens

Kenneth W Edens, age 74 of Joplin, Missouri passed away Saturday July 22, 2023, at his home with his family at his side.

He was born October 5, 1948, in Neosho, Missouri to Earl Edens and Bernice Stockton.

Kenneth was a foreman at Wright’s Tree Service. His favorite pastimes included restoring old cars and attending car shows where he even won trophies. He also enjoyed walking around swap meets and having cookouts with the family. 








Kenneth had a special passion for his old Chevrolets, one being his 1952 Chevy, but most of all he enjoyed spending time reminiscing about old times. He also spent vacations in Florida with his family every chance he got.

Kenneth is survived by his wife Jolene Edens, his daughter Lorie Gaddis, his two sons Danny and Gary Edens, his grandchildren Garrett, Austin, Morgan, Natasha, Justus, and Shad Edens, Jordon and Kaylee Gaddis, also two great granddaughters Everly and Novaleigh.

He is Preceded in death by his Father Earl Edens and Mother Bernice Stockton, three brothers Larry, Bob and Freddie Edens, three sisters Charolett Rinehart, Joyce Simpson, Geneva Edens and daughter Theresa Edens.

He will be missed by many who knew him.

Janice Mettlach

Janice Mettlach, 70, of Sarcoxie, MO, passed from this life to her heavenly home on Thursday, July 27, 2023.

Janice was born on January 7, 1953 in Canton IL, daughter of the late Reverend Elmer and Ruth (Guy) Schnelle. She graduated from Mason City High School, Mason City, IL, with the class of 1971. She then furthered her education at Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield, IL where she graduated with her nursing degree in 1974. 








She began her career as a Registered Nurse at Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO and later worked at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Monett. She worked for many years at the Sarcoxie Nursing Center, retiring in 2005.

Janice was very passionate about her faith in God and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Sarcoxie. She was a very caring person and she adored her grandkids and getting to spend time with them. She enjoyed reading and had a huge heart for all kinds of animals, but especially her pets.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Jason Williams; and one sister, Lisa Ingram.








Survivors include her daughter, Lea Ann Broderick and husband Nick, of Pierce City, MO; her daughter-in-law, Jennifer Lee, of Springfield, MO; two brothers, David Schnelle and wife Janice and Mark Schnelle, all of Springfield MO; a brother-in-law, David Ingram, of Preston, MO, five grandchildren, Grace and Jackson Broderick, Loren Gillette, Ethan and Sidda Williams; one great-granddaughter, Laila Gillette; as well as a host of extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held at Buchanan Funeral Home in Monett, MO on Wednesday, August 2, from 5-7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freistatt on Thursday, August 3, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Jake Sletten and Reverend Gary Griffin officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. 

Memorials may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church or Trinity Lutheran School. Arrangements have been entrusted to Buchanan Funeral Home.

Donna Hollerich

Donna Aulick Hollerich, 69, of Lady Lake, Florida, passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2023. Born in Vero Beach, Florida, she has lived most of her life in Central Florida. 

Donna was a Special Education Teacher prior to her retirement. She was an active member of the Welcome Home Christian Church of Leesburg, FL. She was a Best Buddies Coordinator for Evans and Apopka High Schools and was active with the Special Olympics.







 

Donna is predeceased by her husband, Butch Hollerich, and brother, Mark Aulick. She is survived by her daughter, Kitt Ledford of Leesburg, FL; Brothers, Steve Aulick of Fairview, MO and Tommy Aulick of Vero Beach, FL; sister, Karmen Lee of Vero Beach, FL; grandchildren, Noah Hollerich, Natalie Ledford and Evan Ledford; and by numerous extended family and friends.

Stephen Allen

Stephen Lee Allen, Jr., age 50, Joplin, Missouri, passed away suddenly on Thursday, July 27, 2023 in Joplin. Stephen was born May 22, 1973 at St. John’s Hospital in Joplin to his parents, Stephen L. Allen, Sr. and Victoria D. (Lansaw) Allen of Joplin.

Stephen graduated from Joplin High School with the class of 1992. He worked in sales for most of his career with companies like Sutherland Lumber, CLEAN and Budweiser, prior to retiring early due to his health. Stephen was an avid KC Chiefs fan.








On June 6, 2009, Stephen married Jodi Fidler at Calvary Baptist Church in Joplin, she survives of the home in Joplin. Additional survivors include sons, Dakota and Cameron Allen; daughters, Emily Allen (Jake) of Webb City and Jeanetta Fidler (Jackson) of Joplin; grandkids, Leo and Kash; parents, Steve and Darlene; sisters, Stephanie Allen of Joplin, Sharon Bartley (Chad) of Wyandotte, Oklahoma; grandmother, Mildred Childres of Joplin; mother-in-law, Sandra Fidler of Joplin; brother-in-law, Chris Fidler (Tanna) of Joplin; as well as numerous extended family and friends left to mourn the loss of Stephen.

Stephen is preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Johnny and Opal Lansaw; paternal grandfathers, Loyd Allen and Chuck Childres; Aunt Nancy, Uncle Jake and his father-in-law, Tommy Fidler.








A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, August 3, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at One Church in Joplin, Missouri with Pastor Shane Munn officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made toward family expenses in care of the mortuary.

Elsie Capps

Elsie Capps, 96, entered into rest on July 20, 2023 at Liberty Hospital in Liberty Missouri. Elsie was born in Newcastle Upon Tyne, England on November 2, 1926. 

She was evacuated as a child, from Newcastle during World War II and spent that time in Blenkinsopp Hall in Northeast England. As a teen she served in The Womens Land Army. While in the UK she met and married James Capps. She enjoyed traveling around Europe and the United States where Jim was stationed.








After Jim retired from the military they made their home in Neosho, Missouri. Elsie worked many years as a cook for the Neosho Public Schools and Newton County Jail.

She is survived by her son David Capps and his wife LouAnn, a daughter Jenny Leffel and her husband Chris. Her grandson John Neale and wife Sarah, granddaughter Emily Harris and husband Austin. Her sister Florence (Flo) Clifford and husband David, and numerous nieces and nephews in England and the US. She had the great pleasure of knowing her great-grandson Luca Colombini as well as adopted great-grandson Ethan Smith. She is also survived by special friends that she considered family, Paul and Jan Kliethermes, Tim and DiAnna Wages and Beth Smith.

She is preceded in death by her husband Jim Capps in 1968. Her granddaughter Gina Colombini in 2021 and her sisters Lillian and Edna.








Elsie was always concerned with others well-being and had a way of making people feel special. Elsie was an avid reader until losing her eyesight to Macular Degeneration. She was proud of her British heritage and always enjoyed a good cup of hot tea.

A come and go memorial will be held from 5-7pm on Monday August 14, 2023 at The Weston Place event center on the square in Neosho, MO.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation.

Jarrell Dyer

Jarrell Wayne Dyer was born January 3, 1945 at Florence Nightingale Hospital in Dallas, TX to Claude Edwin and Frances Ann (Hall) Dyer. Jarrell died peacefully at home surrounded by loving family on July 26, 2023. 

Jarrell graduated from Stella High School and attended Joplin Junior College before marrying his childhood sweetheart, Carolyn Ann Hansford in 1965. He started his career in the grocery industry and then retired from Sunbeam Leisure after 25 years of service.








Jarrell is survived by his wife, Carolyn Dyer. Additional survivors include his two children, Jeff (Crystal) Dyer and Cheryl (Ryan) Poage; grandchildren, Gabriel and Shelby Dyer; brother Ron (Vickey) Dyer; nephew Brad Dyer; great nephews and niece, Hunter (Lydia), Xavier, and Xylie Dyer; brother-in-law, Sam Hansford, and many cousins. 

Jarrell was preceded in death by his parents and beloved nephew, Brian Wayne Dyer. Private family services were held.

May Roland

May Ellen Roland, 72, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away at home with her family by her side on July 27, 2023.

May was born on August 19, 1950, in Brookfield, Missouri, to the late George and Lela (Twitchell) Gaston. She enjoyed her job as a seamstress, working at a clothing factory for many years. She was an avid Elvis Presley fan, loved riding horses, but what she loved most was spending time with her grandchildren. They enjoyed their yearly tradition of going to the rodeo and fair together.








Along with her parents, May is preceded in death by her son, George; and 6 siblings.

May is survived by the love of her life, James Baldwin, of Joplin, Missouri; children, Jeffery Seward (Amanda) of Joplin, Missouri, Donald Roland (Tiffany) of Springfield, Missouri; grandchildren, Levi, Allen, Alexis, Madelynn, and Briley; great-grandchildren, Karter and Holden; sister, Barbara Isbell of Joplin, Missouri; brothers, David Gaston and Mark Gaston, both of Carterville, Missouri.

A Celebration of Life will be held at her residence on the farm, at a later date. Cremation is under the personal care and direction of Parker Mortuary.

Evelyn Harmon

Winona ”Evelyn” Harmon was born December 28, 1937, in Neosho, Missouri, to LeRoy and Hattie (Morgan) Robbins.

She entered into rest on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at Porta Caeli Hospice Home in Tulsa, Oklahoma, following a three month illness. She was 85.

Evelyn was a long-time resident of Neosho and graduated from Neosho High School. Upon graduation, she began a long and impactful career at the Bank of Neosho (Community Bank and Trust) before retiring in 2002.








Evelyn began her next phase of life by selling real estate in the Neosho area. She enjoyed helping people realize their dreams. Evelyn enjoyed sewing and making wedding dresses.

Evelyn was active in her local church – First United Methodist Church of Neosho and served as treasurer for many years. She served on the Newton County Health Board and served as President for many years, retiring from the board in 2022. She was a member of Chapter BT PEO and enjoyed a game of bridge with the girls. She enjoyed all of her friends and family.

In October of 2022 following a stroke, Evelyn moved to Bixby, Oklahoma to live with her son – Doug and his wife Karen. While in Bixby, Evelyn was able to get to know her Great Grandson – Thomas. They would spend “Tuesdays with Tommy”. It was the highlight of her week for “Gi-Gi” and Tommy to play with each other .

She married James “Jim” Harmon on December 12, 1957. She and Jim enjoyed traveling all over the world in their retirement years together. Jim preceded her in death on October 5, 2011.






 

Evelyn is survived by:

David Harmon of Neosho, Doug Harmon and his wife Karen of Bixby, Oklahoma, Granddaughters Shannon Marshall and her husband Matt Marshall of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Dr. Allison Harmon of Cleveland, Ohio and Grandson Kyle Devine of Lamar, Missouri. Great Grandchildren Thomas James Marshall and Mia Riley Marshall of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

In addition to her husband and parents, Evelyn is preceded in death by her sister, Judy Sparks.

Michael Novak

Michael Anthony Novak, age 60 of Nevada, passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at the Nevada Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness. Mike was born on October 19, 1962, in Gardner, KS. He was the son of James A. and Shirley A. (Fulton) Novak. 

 Mike was raised in Nevada and graduated from Nevada High School in 1980. He served in the United States Army following High School. Mike became an ordained minister and has served as an associate pastor for Christ’s Church Fellowship.






 

Survivors include four sisters, Pam Sandoval of Nevada, Catherine Erwin of Warsaw, MO, Diana Wessley of Carl Junction, and Linda Gower of Overland Park, KS, two brothers, John Davis (Wendy) of Franklin, GA and Jim Novak (Jane), Nevada, MO, and two stepsons, Graham and Garrett. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Shirley Novak.

A celebration of Life will be held at 12:30 pm on Sunday, July 30, 2023, at Christ’s Church Fellowship located at 621 S. Pine in Nevada with Pastor Robert Fox officiating.

Betty Mouton

Betty Lou Mouton, age 87, of rural Carthage, MO passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on Thursday, July 27, 2023. Betty was born August 18, 1935 in Quinton, OK, the seventh of eight children born to Claude and Maude Coppenger.

Betty graduated from Tulsa Central High School in 1954. It was a rather large school with some 3,000 students. Betty was very popular and was honored to be the band queen of the school and was also honored to be the Queen of the Oklahoma Military Academy in Claremore, OK.
Betty attended Lincoln Bible Institute in Lincoln, IL following High School.








Faith and family were her top priorities. As a preacher’s wife she spent her life in service to others. It was her radiant faith that led her future husband to become a Christian. Betty was blessed with a beautiful singing voice and with a select group of young women, performed on television in Tulsa. She was a member of the Christian Church of Carl Junction.

Betty was married to Boyce Mouton November 27, 1954 in Tulsa, OK. and he survives. Additional survivors include one daughter, Mary Chambers and husband Tim, Carthage, MO, four sons, John Mouton and wife Nancy, Carthage, MO, David Mouton and wife Beverly, Carthage, MO, Steve Mouton and wife Sarah, Charles Town, West VA, and Paul Mouton and wife Jodi, Joplin, MO, one brother Lat Van Coppenger and wife Nancy, Collinsville, OK, 26 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren. 








She was preceded in death by her parents and 6 siblings.

Services will be conducted at 10:00 a,m, Tuesday at the Christian Church of Carl Junction. Private family burial will be at the I.O.O. F Cemetery in Newtonia, Mo. Family visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Monday evening at the Christian Church of Carl Junction. 

Memorial contributions are requested to the Peace on Earth Ministries in care of the Mortuary. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary of Joplin, MO.

Charlie Toler

Charles Eugene Toler, of Dadeville, Missouri, went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 24, 2023 at the age of 38. He was born October 1, 1984 to David and Shana Toler. Charles was baptized into Christ and was a life-long member of the First Christian Church of Dadeville.

Charles was united in marriage to Terron Blake Nimmo on February 27, 2016. This loving union was blessed with three beautiful babes—daughter Charleigh, and sons Keith and Blake. They were Charlie’s whole world.








Charles graduated from Dadeville High School in 2003 and was a proud member of their 2003 final four basketball team. He graduated from Pittsburg State University in 2007 having studied automotive technology. 

He worked as a field mechanic with MODot for fifteen years, but he began turning wrenches with his granddad when he was a boy. He loved working on the farm, hunting and fishing, and celebrating everything. He coached baseball and basketball with as much enthusiasm and heart as he did when he played. He was an active member in his church and community, serving as assistant fire-chief for Dadeville Fire Protection District.

Charles is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Charles Grandon; grandparents, Keith and Louise Toler; and aunt and uncles, Tom, Lee, and Linda Toler.

He is survived by his wife, Terron, and children Charleigh, Keith, and Blake of the home; in-laws, Barbara and Terry Nimmo of Springfield, MO; his parents, David and Shana Toler of Greenfield, MO; sister, Jessie Toler and Rachel Schletzbaum of Dadeville, MO; grandparents, Darrell and Donna Dodd of Dadeville, MO; nieces, Sarah (husband Tanner), Sabrena, and Harleigh; nephews, Gaige, Joe, Gunner, Tyler, Drew, and Colby; and two great-nephews, Kayden and Brodee. Charles also leaves his aunt, Charlene Toler of Greenfield, MO; uncle and aunt, Wesley and Shelly Dodd of Dadeville, MO; many loving cousins; a host of dear friends too numerous to count; and a heart-broken community. If you knew Charlie, he was your friend.

We have an unmeasurable emptiness in our hearts, but the brothers and sisters in our communities have wrapped us up in the love of Jesus. We will always treasure the love you have shared with us.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 31, 2023, at Main Street Baptist Church in Greenfield. Burial will follow in the Dadeville Masonic Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Main Street Baptist Church.

Roy Hanna

Roy Ruthven Hanna, age 71, passed away peacefully on Wednesday July 26th at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Missouri. He was born June 20th, 1952 in Nevada Missouri to Tom and Mickey {Perry} Hanna.

He is survived by his son Joseph Hanna and his wife Lenna of Joplin Missouri; Jeremy Hanna and his wife Caroline of Neosho Missouri; His daughter Crystal Schuster and her husband Chad of Denver Colorado. His two sisters Teri Hanna and Chris Hanna both of Lamar Missouri. His seven grandchildren Brittany, Shelby, Dakota, Spencer, Avery, Haidyn and Nolan. His four great grandchildren Micah, Isaac, Gunner and Fallon. Three brothers-in-law Mick, Jon and Kenny. His two beloved dogs Pancho {Fat Dog} and Wyatt.






 

Roy will be dearly missed by those who loved him on earth but will be reunited with his son Spencer, his parents, and three sisters in Heaven.

The Family would like to express their deep gratitude to the VA Team in Joplin, Freeman Hospital Medical/Oncology Staff, Dr. Nathan Miller, and the Palliative Team for the excellent care they provided to our father in his final days.

Ronald Williams

Ronald Eugene Williams, 81, a faithful Sunday School Teacher at Fifth and Fairview Free Holiness church of Pittsburg, KS, beloved husband and fulltime caregiver, entered “The Great Beyond” Sunday, July 23rd, 2023 after a short and courageous battle with cancer.

Ronald was born December 22nd, 1941 to Nathan Eugene Williams and Gwendolyn Huffstetler Williams in Van Buren, Arkansas. He was the oldest of eight siblings; Sharon Cottrell, Bennett Williams, Janice Lee, Norman Williams, Valencia Spalding, Dorcas Spalding, and Laneta Campbell, all whom he loved very much.

He graduated Hobbs Senior High School in 1959 where he was often used as a substitute teacher while still a student and won an award for tooling a leather saddle and entering it in the Student Craftsman fair At Eastern New Mexico University. His years growing up were spent working for his Father at the Williams Lumber Yard in Hobbs.

Ronald married the love of his life, Sharon Flower Utter, on December 22nd, 1959 and spent their first year of married life in Hobbs before moving to Pittsburg, Kansas. After working for Broadway Lumber and General Machinery, he spent the next 14 years at Joplin Supply Company and became the top salesperson in the company’s history as well as becoming the manager of the Pittsburg office. In 1977 he left Joplin Supply Company to start Hy-Flo Equipment Company after his brother, Bennett Williams, introduced him to the pressure washer business. He owned and managed Hy-Flo Equipment Company for 32 years before becoming a full-time caregiver to his wife and did so faithfully up until shorty before his passing. Hy-Flo Equipment Company is now owned and operated by his son, Mylan, and grandsons Landan & Chandler and is in its 46th year of business. Hy-Flo has proudly used Alkota Manufacturing Company, of Alcester South Dakota, for their supplier of pressure washing equipment for over four decades.

Ronald was known for his unique sense of humor and quick wit. He was a hard worker and provider for his family. His strong sense of values, integrity, honesty, and faith was recognized by all who knew him.

Ronald inherited a love for music from his parents and became an avid guitar and piano player. His favorite instrument was the guitar and he loved playing finger picking Chet Atkins style. He played mostly gospel music and shared his musical talent in his home church as well as churches across the country. He helped many people who were financially in need and was also a generous supporter of the Gospel, Ministers, and Missionaries.








Ronald formed “The Pilgrim’s Quartet” and, in 1969, recorded their only album. Per quoted by Jimmy John Millikin, “He also wrote several beautiful songs and could have sung baritone for any quartet in his prime.” Ronald had a gift for teaching four-part harmony and he took that gift and arranged all the songs on the album. At one point, The Pilgrim’s Quartet was privileged to open for the Blackwood Brothers at a concert in Kansas City.

In the early 1980’s and mid 1990’s, Ronald enjoyed Honda Goldwing Motorcycles and took many road trips with Sharon. Ronald also enjoyed playing sports with his children and at the Williams Family Reunion where he was the designated pitcher for both teams for most of the reunion’s history.

Ronald is survived by: Sharon Flower Williams, wife of 63 years, daughter Melody Williams Troutman of Springdale AR., daughter-in-law Karla Williams of Chicopee, KS, wife of Ronald’s late Son Montee Williams, Son Mylan Williams and wife Paula Williams of Pittsburg, KS, daughter Melissa Williams; Grandchildren, Dallas Padgett, wife Tracey, Anna Negrete, husband Carlos, Matthew Williams and wife Ryanna, Landan Williams, Chandler Williams, wife Chelsea; Great grandchildren, Holland, Avian, and Mylan Ace Williams. Siblings Bennett Williams and wife Carol, Janice Lee and husband Ronnie, Dorcas Spalding, and Laneta Campbell and husband Donny.

Ronald was preceded in death by his Parents, son Montee Williams, sister Sharon Cottrell, brother Norman Williams, and sister Valencia Spalding.

Shirley Capps

Shirley Mae Capps, 87, a longtime resident of Goodman, Missouri, departed this life on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at Sarcoxie Nursing Center after months of declining health.

Shirley entered this life on November 24, 1935, in Wahoo, Nebraska, born to the union of the late Leonard and Veda (Lafollette) Kasper. She was raised in North Bend, Nebraska and was a 1953 graduate of North Bend High School. In 1965, she moved to Goodman, Missouri.






In April of 1970, she was united in marriage to Charles “Jay” Capps, who preceded her in 1982. Shirley was currently a member of the Pineville United Methodist Church and was a thirty-five-year member and treasurer of the former Goodman United Methodist Church. She was a member of the McDonald County Democrat Club serving as a Central Committeewoman and a twelve-year board member of Economic Security. Shirley also worked at Ozark Funeral Home as an attendant for many years. Shirley loved her community, her church and her beloved cats

Shirley is survived by a sister-in-law, Recia Clark of Goodman; a stepdaughter, Teresa Jane; a step granddaughter, Tammy; and three cousins, Norma Nicholson, Edna Fujan and Art Kasper.


Graveside services are 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at Oakwood Cemetery in Neosho, Missouri with Pastor Sherie Wymore officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Ozark Funeral Home in Anderson, Missouri.    

Nadine Lawson

Nadine Lucille Lawson (Best), 97 of Joplin passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, surrounded by her family, at The Communities of Wildwood. 

Born July 7, 1926, in Columbus, Kansas, she was the daughter of Vernie Best, and Ellen (Smith) Pickett. She grew up in Columbus where she attended school. She lived in Kentucky, Illinois, Washington, and Florida before moving back to Columbus with her husband and children.

She married Albert Lee Lawson on January 14, 1945. He died June 1, 1967, of cancer. 








After his death, she went to nursing school. She worked at Maude Norton Columbus Hospital, and later Spring River Christian Village. She was a member of the Columbus First Christian Church, where she volunteered for funeral dinners. 

Her passions were her flower and vegetable gardens. She enjoyed sewing, embroidery, cooking, and reading books of famous people, a lot of Elvis stories. Nadine loved her neighbors. She enjoyed visiting, and their times together. They all were very special to Nadine’s family, too, as they looked out for her, and helped in many, many ways.

She was preceded in death besides her husband, a sister Vada Castle, and a son Richard Lee Lawson. Survivors include daughter-in-law Jane Lawson; daughters, Ellen Dougan (Jim) of Grandview, Mo, Cindy Starertt (John) Joplin, Jill Knight (Richie) Webb City; and sons Larry Lawson (Carol), Miami, OK, and Todd Lawson (Debbie) Carl Junction; Thirteen grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren.








The family will have visitation, Sunday from 3;00-4:00p.m. at Mason-Woodard Funeral Home. Services will be Monday, July 31, 2023, 10:00a.m. also at Mason-Woodard Mortuary in Joplin, Mo. Burial will be at Park Cemetery in Columbus, Kansas.

Jim Skahan

James A. Skahan, 94, of Columbus, Kansas, passed away of natural causes on July 17, 2023, at his residence in Columbus with family by his bedside. 

Jim was born December 14, 1928, in Turck, Kansas to Thomas Dewey Skahan and Margaret Helen (Rae) Skahan. He was the seventh of eight siblings: Tom, Mary Margaret, Gene, Cliff, Deana, Donna, and Michael. 

He was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart Betty Jean Mast on November 24th, 1949, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Columbus, Kansas. They were married for 62 years until her passing in August 2010. He attended a Class of '46 high school reunion where he reunited and eventually married a classmate, Marceline "Shanty" Cole, in 2013.







Jim graduated from Columbus High School, Class of 1946 and immediately joined the Navy. After his discharge, he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Pittsburg State University. Later in life, he earned a Master’s Degree in Health Care Administration from Central Michigan University. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a Navy corpsman where he attained the rank of Seaman 1st Class stationed in Okinawa, Japan. 

At the time of his death, he was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Columbus, Kansas. Prior to he attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Norborne, Missouri and St. Mary's Catholic Church, Carrollton, Missouri. 

He previously resided in Carthage, Missouri, until 1962 when the family moved to Carrollton, Missouri, where he stayed until 2013. During his time in Carrollton, he served the community in many capacities from Cub Scout Master, Boy Scout Master, Little League coach, and basketball coach for St. Mary's 4th -8th grade team. He was an integral part in starting the girls’ basketball program at the high school in the mid 1970’s. 

He served as an officer in his local and state VFW, of which he was most proud, where he assisted many a Veteran with benefits unknown to them. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #3 in Columbus, KS.

Jim was an avid Notre Dame fan, an even bigger KU supporter and would occasionally root for Kansas State when there was nothing better on TV. Of course, he followed his Alma Mater, Pittsburg State University Gorillas especially during their glory years in football. 








He was a private pilot and had attained his Commercial Rating and a member of the Civil Air Patrol Unit in Carrollton, MO. A robust reader, especially of Westerns, he went through every author and many volumes until Macular Degeneration forced him to resort to the iPad and iPhone for audio books to continue his addiction to the written word. 

And that iPhone and iPad became his lifeline to his family and friends. He so loved technology and was always fascinated he could Facetime friends and family halfway across the world.

Jim started his real-world employment as a 4th grade teacher in Hutchison, Kansas before moving to Carthage, Missouri where he spent five years as an insurance agent with Met Life. He was hired as the Business Manager at McCune-Brooks Hospital and was soon promoted to Hospital Administrator. He served there until 1962 when he was named the Hospital Administrator for Kelling Clinic and Hospital, Waverly, Missouri, a post he held for 18 years.

He was one of the original four partners in building and owning Riverview Heights Nursing Home, Waverly, MO in 1972 as well as Director until 1980.

He then became The Director of Education for 12 hospitals in Northeast Missouri before becoming Administrator at Ray County Memorial Hospital, Richmond, Missouri for three years until his retirement--or so he thought! He was coaxed out of retirement to be named Executive Director of OATS Transportation, the largest transportation system for senior citizens in the state of Missouri. He re-retired in 1994 and spent his time as Mayor for four years, playing golf every day with his beloved caddy, Pooh, as a proud member of the Carrollton Country Club. He enjoyed owning and managing several rental homes throughout the town in his spare time.

Professionally, Jim was a member of the Board of Directors of the Hospital Association of Greater Kansas City, the Missouri Hospital Association and continued as part owner of Riverview Heights Nursing Home, now Apple Ridge Care Center, Waverly, Missouri, where it continues in business after 50 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Dewey and Margaret Helen Skahan, four brothers and three sisters (Tom, Mary Margaret, Gene, Cliff, Deana, Donna, and Michael), his wife of 62 years, Betty Jean (Mast) Skahan and a son, David Jeffery Skahan as well as his second wife, Marceline "Shanty" Cole. Survivors include four children; Dr. J. Michael Skahan (Jeanne) of Springfield, Missouri, Stephan A. Skahan (Debbie) of Blue Springs, Missouri, Philip T. Skahan (Connie) of Gladstone, Missouri and Mary Elizabeth "Liz" Skahan of Overland Park, Kansas. 








In addition, there are 12 grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, all of whom he cherished in his own way. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, many of whom would come to visit and care for him over the course of his last year. And lastly, Kitt the cat.

Visitation and Rosary will be Saturday, August 12, 2023, beginning at 10:00am, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Columbus, Kansas. Funeral Mass and a celebration of life immediately follows. Interment of his cremated remains will be at Park Cemetery at the conclusion of Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Columbus, KS and or VFW Post #1773 Pence-Lovell-England Carrollton, MO in Jim’s honor.

The family wishes to especially thank Christina “Christy” Smith of Phoenix Health Care, Joplin, MO who literally became part of the family during her time caring for Jim and support of the family. Also, the VA Home Base Primary Care Unit out of Parsons, KS, and Henry Hynes Memorial Hospice, Pittsburg, KS for their guidance and care of both Jim and the family.
