Shirley Capps

Shirley Mae Capps, 87, a longtime resident of Goodman, Missouri, departed this life on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at Sarcoxie Nursing Center after months of declining health.

Shirley entered this life on November 24, 1935, in Wahoo, Nebraska, born to the union of the late Leonard and Veda (Lafollette) Kasper. She was raised in North Bend, Nebraska and was a 1953 graduate of North Bend High School. In 1965, she moved to Goodman, Missouri.






In April of 1970, she was united in marriage to Charles “Jay” Capps, who preceded her in 1982. Shirley was currently a member of the Pineville United Methodist Church and was a thirty-five-year member and treasurer of the former Goodman United Methodist Church. She was a member of the McDonald County Democrat Club serving as a Central Committeewoman and a twelve-year board member of Economic Security. Shirley also worked at Ozark Funeral Home as an attendant for many years. Shirley loved her community, her church and her beloved cats

Shirley is survived by a sister-in-law, Recia Clark of Goodman; a stepdaughter, Teresa Jane; a step granddaughter, Tammy; and three cousins, Norma Nicholson, Edna Fujan and Art Kasper.


Graveside services are 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at Oakwood Cemetery in Neosho, Missouri with Pastor Sherie Wymore officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Ozark Funeral Home in Anderson, Missouri.
