(From Derfelt Funeral Home)James Michael Wickes, age 71, passed away at 2:32 pm, Monday, July 17, 2023 at Freeman West Hospital Joplin, following an illness.
Mike was born May 5, 1952 in Torrance, CA. His parents were Harry Erwin and Wilma Imogene (Burlingame) Wickes II.
He entered the US Army in 1975 and was discharged in 1981. He worked in telecommunications. He enjoyed building models, playing trivia games with his brother and sister, and following NFL picks with family members.
He was last married to Roxanne Sloan on Oct 18, 2014 in Eureka Springs, AR. She preceded him in death Oct 28, 2019.
Surviving are 3 sons, James C Wickes, Carlsbad, NM, Michael R Wickes, San Antonio, TX, and Zeke Wickes, Irvine, CA; two daughters, Chevelle Wickes, Pittsburg, KS, and Sarah Hernandez, El Paso, TX; two step children, Tim Green and Stephanie August; one brother, Harry Wickes, Chino Hills, CA; two sisters, Captola Wickes, Menifee, CA and TaundaLea Blaisdell, Covina, CA; 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, several step grandchildren, five nieces, and four nephews.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 am CST, Monday, July 24, 2023 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS. Fr Robert Wachter will officiate. Military rites and burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Galena, KS.
